The first 20 or so minutes are a bit slow, but it picks up with good actions scenes later on. It doesn't hold a candle to the first Ip Man, but it's about equal to Ip Man 2 overall. Ip Man 2 had a better, more interesting plot than Ip Man 3. On the other hand, Ip Man 3 had better and more exciting action scenes. I'd say they are roughly equal. The flaw this movie has (that the first two didn't have) is that is can be melodramatic, but the superior action scenes make up for the overall weaker drama and plotline.Score: 8

I don't watch kung fu movies much but when I do watch one I expect to see a lot of action. With "Ip Man 3" I wasn't disappointed. Like with most kung fu films I've seen, the plot and story-line is simple. This one was really no different. A kung fu Master, Master Ip (Donnie Yen), must fight a gang led by a crooked property developer name Frank (Mike Tyson), that's trying to take over a local school, a simple story-line but a great action film. What makes this film a little more interesting is the dramatic situation that unfolds in the life of Ip Man (Donnie Yen) and his wife, Lynn Hung (Cheung Wing-sing). This brings a softer side to this kung fu film and it did add a little more depth to it as well. The acting was what you would expect in a kung fu film but Mike Tyson could have done a better job on his part. I think that would have made this film a little better but at the same time Mike Tyson's fighting scene was awesome. If you love kung fu films you will definitely enjoy this one.

What a lovely and meaningful movie. This movie emphasize why martial art is important, to defend but not to offense. And it also highlights the true meaning of love, not leaving thy lover when she needs us most and spending your last moments with the person you love and willing to give yourself for your loved one is the true meaning of love. And one of the most remarkable trait is that respect one other and accept defeat with equal favour. Perhaps this may easily be one of my favourite movies of all time. Donnie Yen portraits ancient Grandmaster YIP perfectly without any doubt he captures Mater Yip's Kindness and Generosity.

This is a good movie that goes beyond the usual Martial Arts storyline and focuses on the human side of Ip Man. The love for his wife is the backbone f this story and the ending is very sad. Donnie Yen is excellent as IP man and portrays him with real sincerity. The Wing Chun is more accurate than in previous films and shows how amazing it is a close up technique. This is shown especially in the elevator scene wit the Muay Thai kick boxer played by Simon Kuke of Tony Jaa's stunt team. The fight with Mike Tyson is also good and although some criticise the shortness of the fight (3minutes) I think this is fair as it would have been a matter of time before Tysons power knocked out Ip man Yen's finale with Zhang could have been better but it did at least show some very authentic Wing Chun.I thought the introduction of Bruce Lee did not work on a number of levels. The actor playing Bruce portrayed him as he became later on, whereas Bruce was very much younger when he met Ip man. Bruce would not have used much if any martial Arts skills when he first met Ip man as he had not been trained in any and certainly would not have used high kicks. IP man took on Bruce and following criticism from other students that as Bruce was only half Chinese he should not be taught Kung Fu, IP Man taught him privately. Also Ip man was much older than portrayed in this movie when he started to train Bruce. If they had kept to the facts this could have made an interesting part of this film, instead it seemed like a comedic element had been added. So over all a good but not Brilliant movie. Well worth a watch though.
