Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the run-down apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building's lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the sixth floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission. Starring Indonesian martial arts sensation Iko Uwais.

There were no surprises with the plot, and the performances were nothing mind-blowing - but this film is about the ACTION, and I was shocked at how well it was executed. Exciting from start to finish. The pace doesn't let up, and some scenes are truly stunning. Brilliant stunts. Can't wait to watch the sequel.

To be honest I was surprised by the quality of this movie, but it happens to be one of the best martial arts films within the past decade. The story wasn't gonna blow your socks off but it was interesting and entertaining. Most of the characters feel real and the movie succeeds in getting you involved in the plot. But the real highlight of this movie is the action and fight scenes. Just stunning really. The choreography and cinematography was on point. They really put their hearts and souls in this movie and it shows.

Dadgum, this action-packed movie was impressive. The music, pacing, fight choreography--especially the cinematography--all blended into an electrifying experience. There wasn't much plot, as others said, but that didn't detract from the film. I think they used that fact to enhance the film. There were even some unexpected touching moments!I don't know how they could top this, because it's already a whirlwind, roller coaster ride of punches, kicks, and more kicks. Also, knives and guns. And death. By a...door? (That may be a spoiler, however slight, so I forewarned). So give this movie a fighting chance, arm yourself with popcorn, and get ready to kick it. It feels fresh, realistic, and brings the viewer in somehow right in with the characters. I'd compare this phenomenon with Casino Royale, where it feels unscripted, yet you know it is. 8.5 outta 10 (I rounded up I guess, I couldn't decide between 8 & 9 so I went with 9). Enjoy. Oh, and definitely not for kids, it's kinda bloody and sweary (ya know, full of swear words).

Indonesian special tactics officer Rama prays, practices silat and bids goodbye to his father and wife, who is pregnant with his child. He cryptically promises his father he will "bring him home." Rama joins a heavily armed 20-man elite police squad, including Officers Bowo and Dagu, Sergeant Jaka, and Lieutenant Wahyu, for a raid on a high-rise apartment block in Jakarta's slums. The team intends to capture crime lord Tama Riyadi, who, along with his two lieutenants Andi and Mad Dog, owns the block and lets criminals and junkies around the city rent rooms under his protection. Arriving undetected, the team sweeps the first floors and subdues various criminal tenants; they also temporarily detain an innocent, law-abiding tenant delivering medicine to his sick wife in apartment #726. Continuing undetected to the sixth floor, the team is spotted by a young lookout, who passes on the message to another adolescent lookout just before he is shot dead by Lt. Wahyu; the latter youth raises the alarm.
