I am a big fan of Chappelle's older stuff, both his stand-ups and his show so needless to say I was very excited about this new stand up. Watching it was the saddest thing ever, the man completely lost his humor and seems to have just accumulated frustrations and issues, not funny just sad...

Not funny, my grandmother funeral was much funnier than this awful special. Not funny, my grandmother funeral was much funnier than this awful special. Not funny, my grandmother funeral was much funnier than this awful special. he used to be great but he has relied upon the same jokes now for about 10 years and there is nothing "special" about this special. I am sure there are plenty of bad reviews based on his politics but this special just stinks. While he blames the bad reviews on the "alt- right", he should probably be looking in the mirror. I am sure any 10 review is solely based on his political statements not this special.

Chappelle took the stage and belted out some great comedy. His stories about OJ Simpson were funny and kind of telling on the changing opinions and emotions as the years went by. His stuff on Cosby was very good... maybe even insightful. My favorite was the imaginary superhero that only gained superpowers after he raped a woman. So, he rapes women, but he saves lives. And, he saves, more than he rapes. Reminds me of the Japanese, Hanzo the Razor series. In all, a very nicely constructed set. Some maturity... some bigotry... some confessions of acts that were not particularly nice at the time. I say, see it...

I wasn't overly taken by the first of the new Netflix specials (well, first that I watched – they are not in an order). The Age of Spin is better in the most part. The routine has a good flow to it, and when he touches on subjects they tend to be more of interest and informed than many of the Heart of Texas jokes, which seemed to revolved around crudity too often. He does still get into rape, transgender issues, gender equality, and other sensitive subjects – and of course he does not go into them gently, but he mostly explores within them in a way that is interesting rather than directly offensive, and most importantly, is funny. You can see in the audience a lot of times where individuals went beyond what they were comfortable with, and I did too; however, this is why I liked it – he didn't just blurt out offensive things, but rather the material was a journey where he perhaps lost some people on the way, but at the same time it was still a fun journey. I continue to not see him as esteemed as others do, but he is a great showman, and this show was pretty strong. Repeating motifs, well- observed, engaging structure, and of course with Chappelle being a presence in the middle. Easily the better of the two recent specials.
