I will blaspheme against the rest of the world when I say I don't care for Woody Allen. This could have been a very interesting story but the worst part about it starts with the casting of the main character. Owen Wilson has never impressed me. I'm so annoyed by his voice and the way he chose to portray this character. The cinematography drives me up the wall. The only reason this got a 2 over a 1 from me is that the supporting actors were believable and worth watching. Woody Allen and Owen Wilson ruined the film.

I was looking forward to this movie due to the high reviews and known cast. To my disappointment, this movie had a boring plot and no climax. Sure, if you're a 20s history buff you might found encounters with Picasso exciting- but eh, I could pass. The movie starts out with clips of Paris and music.. which continues for FIVE MINUTES. Why? This should've been my first sign. Then it goes on to explain the main character's downhill relationship with his fiancé while they are visiting Paris. They run into her old college lover (and his girlfriend) in a fancy restaurant. Who just runs into an American friend in another country??! So then you're like wtf is this movie about?! Eventually you find out the main character can time travel at midnight in Paris (wow- creative title). He gets to meet his idols which really isn't that exciting and for the most part isn't impactful. I guess he gets insight on his book and learns the lesson that people glorify time that isn't the present. This- and a girl he meets in the 20s who bounces from guy to guy and leaves him after a whole 5 minutes of them being together to live in another time period- convinces him to leave his life and move the Paris. Obviously he leaves his fiancé who the movie paints to be mean and a cheater. But- this guy literally went out all night, refused to do family stuff with her while on vacation and tried to steal her pearl earrings to give to the 20s girl. Then the movie just kinda ends. Save your valuable time answers watch something else. This movie was awful.

Sweet, interesting, funny, real, yet fantasy. I put off seeing this for years. Not sure why, maybe the idea of Owen Wilson being in a Woody movie put me off. Wilson does't even do the go-to Owen Wilson thing, yet he's still good. Fun plot but don't over think it. All the performances are on point and it was my first time witnessing Marion Cotillard... wow. Watch: on a rainy night with your boo. One Word: Whimsical

Midnight in Paris was an enjoyable film to watch, stories about time travel and great historical figures is always a treat to watch. The protagonist (Owen Wilson) perfectly fits into this story as a writer who fancies the past and the city of Paris. Woody Allen has shown his great talent through his direction, symbolism and letting the audience experience Paris in different times. It was fun ride to watch Gil (Wilson) travel back in time to the 1920s in Paris and Midnight and interact with some of history's memorable and significant figures. As the film progresses you see Gil's life and time become happier and more exciting but at the same time his life in the present is in decline. The first half of the film was magical and a joy to watch. The only criticism I have is the part where Marion Cotillard's character also has the opportunity to travel to an even earlier time in Paris in the same manner as Gil by accepting a ride at midnight. This somewhat made the film confusing and harder to buy into. How many people can slip back into time besides Gil so easily? While the past was celebrated well in the film the ease with which people could go back and possibly even change past events underscores its importance and significance it has played. I feel they could have omitted that element and it should have only been Gil's ability and journey. He could have still reached his epiphany that people in the present always look to the past and nostalgia is a feeling that each generation will continue to have. Overall still an enjoyable and creative film. 7.5/10
