Foxcatcher (2014)

This was a little (lot) vague at times, whereas at the end I had to Google the events that happened to get the whys of it. Based on a true story about millionaire John Du Pont and his relationship with two brothers, Dave & Mark Schultz, Olympic wrestlers he engages to train at his estate so that he can be an "Olympic coach." Mark initially idolizes Du Pont but slowly realizes the depths of his benefactors madness.Things are hinted at...sexual misconduct and the actual murder is done in such a vague way it doesn't appear to have any motivation. Its slow at times and sorta feels like a documentary in its style which keeps the viewer at a distance. The make up and acting from all involved is phenomenal though. Steve Carell, wow creepy brilliant job. Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo as the brothers also do a great job.

The absolute epitome of "show don't tell." This film builds its tension and develops its characters with actions...not words. Plus, the performances - from Carrell to Ruffalo - are fantastic. Granted the plot is uneven and slow, but the overall effect is chilling nonetheless.

This was a well made film, but ultimately felt pointless. The ending, and the entire plot, reeks of true crime via tabloid.The prosthetics were distracting and unnecessary. It was obvious that the three main actors were trying their hardest to imitate their real life counterparts, which was unnecessary, and distracting. I spent a lot of time thinking of what the actor was thinking and the uncanniness of the acting/makeup/characters amplified that. It was all unnecessary and distracting, did I mention that...The male love triangle was well done, two are brothers so its not a gay love triangle. Other than 1-2 implications, physical male love was left out of it.6.5/10 because it was watchable, but unless I submit this review now, im dropping it to 5 for its sheer pointlessness.

I don't blame the people that walked out of this movie. Nothing really happened in the first 40 minutes of the film. I don't like to say that a movie is boring because it makes you sound like an infant, but unfortunately the movie was indeed a bit "boring". Let me explain:The plot looked very interesting, but the pacing was too slow and it felt too long too. I blame the editing, the movie could've easily been cut down 20 minutes short. Luckily, the film is saved by the great performances and the ending, which was completely unexpected (if you didn't know what happened already).Solid 7/10
