I have always enjoyed this movie. Everybody always talks about Witness being the best Amish film (they even reference it in this movie!), but I've always found Witness to be a bit too scary, although I do watch it sometimes. For Richer or Poorer is a lovely, funny, and heart-warming movie -- the Amish movie to watch when you want to relax and unwind. My favorite scene is near the end when Tim Allen and Jay O. Sanders are standing in the corn field and Tim is marveling that the corn he had struggled to plant is growing so tall and full. Jay then says that he finds it ironic that the English have always viewed the Amish as backward, and as hiding from reality. Then he points towards to growing corn and says, "But this is the reality....it is not we who are hiding." Kirstie Allen and Tim Allen, as well as well-known character actors Wayne Knight and Larry Miller, provide big laughs throughout. Great writing, some interesting side stories, beautiful landscapes, and an interesting window into Amish life, all make this movie a winner!

I simply "happened upon" this flick one afternoon when I had a couple of hours free which I hadn't expected.I never was a fan of either of the leads' television respective series. Tim Allen's appeal was lost on me, and I frankly found Kirstie Alley downright annoying. So this movie was a total surprise for me. When I tuned-in, I expected I'd probably switch channel within two minutes, but got interested and enjoyed it throughout.Neither lead displayed the least bit of "ham," nor gnawed any scenery, as I would have expected.Their performances were both excellent, their chemistry on-screen complete, and the supporting cast were plausible where appropriate and provided some comic hi-jinks, likewise. One of those thoroughly warm and pleasant films, which flies under the proverbial "radar," and appears with little notoriety.. It's a fine presentation which I'd also view again when opportunity presents.

I think this is the best movies of the 90's. Great humor from Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley. Who knew? Also, the comedy great Tim Allen used his line from Toy Story "I come in peace." Has anyone noticed that yet? This is the best Tim Allen performance I've seen so far. Thanks and also I'd like to say that they should do a sequel of this movie somehow. I first watched this movie about 2 years ago and fell in love with it immediately. Kirstie Alley always does her best to keep herself looking so good in movies I think. I definitely would recommend this movie to my friends and to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Keep up the good work Tim Allen.

This is a good example of why script rewrites are done up until the last minute. When not done right, the jokes just fall flat. I don't think I laughed a single time while watching this movie. The ending was obvious a few minutes in, and the way it all came about was so predictable. But, the thing that amazed me the most was the fact that whoever made this movie thought for a second that it sounded like a good idea. There are some actors that just shouldn't pick their own roles, and some movies that shouldn't have been made. This movie is definitely a good example of what happens when you let those things take place.Avoid at all costs.
