Except that Platt kind of won me over in Lake Placid. So I tried it. I loathe pro-wrestling. Pro-wrestlers can be amazing athletes but come on. That crap is cotton candy for the brain and it will cause neural-decay. Having said that, this movie is a must see for lovers of the low-brow! It has crazy-hot eye candy, great action, a surprisingly awesome cast, AND it will crown your funny-bone. If you let it, this show will RULE you! This is definitely watchable every couple of years.

As World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was going bankrupt, they needed to come up with other ways of earning money, and decided to jump into the film business. Little did they know that within two years, they'd be out of business and their rival, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), would pick up their idea and turn it into a billion dollar industry. Ready To Rumble features two life long wrestling fans, intent on restoring their favorite wrestler, The King (Oliver Platt), back to his former glory. Against all odds, they inspire The King to get back in shape, and compete for one last chance at glory. It's hard to remember through all the intense action and dangerous moves, that professional wrestlers are actually actors, who need to learn a script and play a character, on a weekly basis, so why not put them in movies. It has worked out very well for WWE Films, which has produced some great films, including; The Marine, 12 Rounds, and The Call, but what about WCW's only foray into the movie business? David Arquette was the perfect choice to play this wacky wrestling freak, and he actually had great chemistry with everyone involved. The story told in Ready To Rumble may lack the vulgarity and insanity that has become associated with most modern comedies, but it was certainly something different and did have it's movements of hilarity.

Ready to Rumble is a breakthrough in dumbass comedys. It's not too bad, but seriously, it was like the last movie David Arquette was ever in that I know of (Eight Legged Freaks doesn't count). The sole person that saved this movie from the $5.99 bin at Wal-Mart was Oliver Platt. It truly shows he can be serious and stupid at the same time. Okay, on to the plot (oh right, there wasn't one). Alright, I like this movie,I own this movie, so I should stop being a jerk. The story is about Jimmy King, a professional wrestler for World Championship Wrestling (WCW) whose loses a match and is fired. This is where Arquette and Scott Cann come in. They're both huge King fans and are ticked off that he got screwed by the president of WCW, Donald St.Claire (Joe Pantoliano). So they find the King, fix him up with some connections, have him train, and win a cage match at a major pay-per-view. Sounds pretty simple, right? Other than some minor story flaws, and an ass shot of Scott Cann half-way through, it was okay. It's a good thing WCW doesn't exist anymore, because more than likely, there would've been a sequel (which is not good at all). Two out of five stars.

Oh look! A movie about wrestling! Wrestling isn't dead after all! Weeha!Maybe not, but this movie proves that it suffers from both leprosy and boils, making it pretty damn unattractive to anyone who isn't a bit funny in the head. The obnoxious David Arquette has one of the leading roles in this annoying stink-pile, he plays a guy walks around and do dumb things and say things that are even dumber and a horribly miscast Oliver Platt walks around and mumbles lines like he's got multiple concussions. And almost every joke here is about kicks in the groin. Yes, you read right. I figure there must be about twenty or so kicks in the crotch in just two hours. Who wrote this stuff anyway? Anarchistic feminists?Everything isn't really that bad though, Rose McGowan looks great and Scott Caan is OK in the second leading role. Otherwise this was a lame movie filled with dumb jokes and people I just couldn't stand to watch.3/10
