After failing to kill stubborn survivor Laurie and taking a bullet or six from former psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis, Michael Myers has followed Laurie to the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, where she's been admitted for Myers' attempt on her life. The institution proves to be particularly suited to serial killers, however, as Myers cuts, stabs and slashes his way through hospital staff to reach his favorite victim.

I will say Halloween 2 is filmed very well & has a similar atmosphere & style to the CLASSIC original but it's too stupid in many parts ridiculous actually!!! The whole story of making Michael lauries brother was RIDICULOUS no need at all & takes away how scary & random the killings was in the first film so makes no sense & was a STUPID idea. They also waited too long to follow the first film 4yrs, so the fact it literally carries on from the same night is Stupid again as you can see they all look different & aged & hair everything again STUPID!!! Also the part where Laurie wants to scream & all of a sudden can't scream loses her voice? until dr.loomis is in the hospital & the door closes & the of course she can scream again RIDICULOUS!!! Those are the bad points but the Good stuff is the excellent creepy atmosphere when using the excellent dark Hospital setting, that always stuck with me from watching it on my double feature video with the original. The cinematography is great & the music is good a more synthesized score as it's 4yrs later in the 80s!!! But yeah there is also alot of good stuff in this sequel, Jamie lee curtis is again really good but like i said had to do some stupid stuff in this & Donald Pleasance is back & basically being the same as usual but good. The hospital setting in very good & that makes the film exciting & scary, the kills are brutal & violent & myers looks very scary in this just like the first film so that is really good. A very good sequel just not Brilliant

I'm not the biggest fan of the original 1978 'Halloween'. I respect it for what it is, but I do prefer a little more violence and gore in my horror. There's no reason you can't have both extreme suspense and then violence and gore to top it off. That is probably the reason I enjoyed the sequel a little more than the original (sinful, I know). For me though, it just had everything the original had, plus more. The great music is still around this time. It really is brilliant. It's so haunting and eerie and memorable. It just screams "Danger!". I also love how director Rick Rosenthal creates scenarios where there is a countdown of sorts (in creative ways like an elevator coming down floors) and the killer is getting closer and closer. This is when the film is at its most intense. There's the usual dodgy acting and some of the dialogue is written in a pretty cringe-worthy way. Other than that though this is a horror master-class that has aged extremely well. The character of Sam Loomis remains one of my favourite horror heroes to this day. If you're a fan of 'Michael Myers', but find the original a little slow for your liking, try this one out for size. It may be more to your liking. Hell, even if you love the original you should still be able to find enjoyment in this one.

John Carpenter's 1978 'Halloween' is wholly deserving of its status as a horror classic. To this day it's still one of the freakiest films personally seen and introduced the world to one of horror's most iconic villainous characters Michael Myers.Which is why it is such a shame that not only are all of the sequels nowhere near as good but that the decline in quality is so drastic. Ok, the original 'Halloween' is very difficult to follow on from, but most of the sequels could at least looked like effort was made into them. 'Halloween II' is not the worst of them, or one of the worst of them. It is not really a good film, not by a long shot, but oddly enough it still manages to be one of the better 'Halloween' sequels and one of the few semi-watchable ones despite its glaring faults.'Halloween II' has strengths. It is one of the better-looking and more polished sequels and has a suitably eerie look. The music has a spine-chilling atmosphere, if not as much as the first 'Halloween' and not as big a character of its own that the music in the original was.Didn't care much for the acting generally, but both Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance make successfully game efforts and Michael Myers does evoke some creepiness. There are also unfortunately some significant drawbacks. The biggest fault is that the atmosphere and tone are just wrong. The film just feels like a stale retread minus the chilling scares, nail-biting suspense and the feeling of being unsettled. There is nothing creative or shocking about the scares or deaths, it's all by-the-numbers, over-familiar and indifferent. Everything is just too predictable and dull in pace to be remotely suspenseful. Stupidity is also all over the film. So many moments are intelligence-insultingly ridiculous and almost illogical, and the hospital setting would have been more effective if it wasn't so under-populated and drab (it actually didn't feel like a hospital at all). Didn't care for the direction either, there is no flair and very little engagement with the material, at times there is too much of an imitation of the direction of the first 'Halloween' but with no success.Curtis and Pleasance aside, the acting is ropey and everybody has to work with a clunky script, with a stilted flow and a lot of unintentional laughs, and annoying characters (with the old characters being so dumbed down that they are no better).Overall, mediocre but one of the semi-watchable sequels of the series. 4/10 Bethany Cox
