Jerry Maguire (1996)

Jerry Mcguire is a great drama comedy with a good performance by Tom Cruise and some excellent acting by Renee Zellwegger, young Jonathan Lipnicki, Bonnie Hunt and especially Cuba Gooding Jr. who won a best supporting academy award for this role. The jokes are great and the script is breezy yet heartwarming and witty. This is Cameron Crowe at his finest and one of the finest drama films made in the 1990s. Cameron Crowe is a great writer and Jerry Mcguire could be his best work.

Continuing my plan to watch every Tom Cruise movie in order, I come to Jerry McGuire (1996)Plot In A Paragraph: When sports agent Jerry Maguire (Cruise) has a moral epiphany and is fired for expressing it, he decides to put his new philosophy to the test as an independent agent with the only athlete who stays with him and a former co worker.In a time when I'm becoming less and less interested in new movies, Jerry Maguire reminds me why I love movies. Cameron Crowe has wrote and directed a really good movie. A movie that is all about its characters, and whose main character spends much of the time desperate and out of luck. Movies like that can be depressing and a tough watch, but Jerry Maguire isn't. It is not without its problems!! It's a tad too long, has too many subplots, we get your standard sports movie cliché scene, and the kid is a little too movie cute too. Cruise (who won the golden globe) holds the full thing together he is literally in every scene. You need to root for the hero in the movie, and you do root for Cruise, who spends more time on the ropes here, than in any other movie.I find Cuba Gooding Jr really annoying here!! He is just so loud!! All he seems to do is yell!! I could not spend more than 5 minutes in a room with his character!! I'm amazed he won the Oscar. Something Crowe is good at, is giving characters with a small amount of screen time, personalities that made them stand out! Regina King is really good at standing out in her small role. Kelly Preston, so adorable in Twins, is so unappealing here and Jay Mohr is perfectly sleazy as a rival sports agent.Jerry McGuire was nominated for 5 Oscars and grossed $153 million at the domestic box office to end the year, the 4th highest grossing movie of 1996. This was Tom Cruise's fifth consecutive 100-million-dollar-plus film, a new record at the time.

Perhaps one of the most quoted movies is Jerry Maguire (1996). So is it really worth all the hype? I think so! Tom cruise and Renee Zellweger give masterful performances in this sports agent drama. Tom of course is always great, he's one of my very favorites, but if I'm being honest, Zellweger shines the most of all here. "You had me at hello". That probably is the most popular quote of the whole film, and it's deserving of that title. That is just good heartfelt writing, some may think it's cheesy or overly cliché, but I just think it's her character being honest about her true love for cruise's character. Cuba Gooding Jr. is the actor who won the academy award for his supporting performance, and yes it's true, he is very good here, I'm not totally certain it was worth an Oscar, but it's still good work. The script is pretty well written, it's all centered about tom cruise and his revelation as a person, and the romance between Zellweger and him is all apart of his big change in himself. The chemistry between all the actors on screen is good and believable, cruise and Zellweger having the best and most real seeming. I suggest this movie for both men and women, young and old, you certainly do not have to enjoy sports to enjoy this. Hell I'm living proof of that. 8/10 for Jerry Maguire.

I am big fan of tom cruise n i have watched most of his movies n all r entertaining, but Jerry is that kind of movie which not only entertains you but also makes you feel good. Tom cruise was the perfect choice for jerry maguire, i can't think of any actor in that role,, tom cruise is always considered as the best good looking actor who he is but , but i like him for his acting,, his acting in this movie is so believable, funny , goofy and whenever he shouts, yells , in movie not only entertains cuba gooding jr. but us also. i had always watched tom cruise as an action star before watching jerry maguire cuz i watched this movie 20 yr later its release. he should have gotten an Oscar award for this movie, which he really deserved. the other cast of movie were very good. cuba gooding is funny at times. the coordination between him n tom cruise in this movie is so good that it makes you feel like you are watching real people talking. renee zellweger is also quite good in her role, the screenplay is very entertaining n doesn't make u feel bored , the cinematography, dialogues, Direction of cameron crowe. Cameron crowe is a great director and whenever he n tom cruise works together its,they always bring good movies....
