As a new day begins in the town of Silverton, its residents have little reason to believe it will be anything other than ordinary. Mother Nature, however has other plans. In the span of just a few hours, an unprecedented onslaught of powerful tornadoes ravages Silverton. Storm trackers predict that the worst is still to come, as terrified residents seek shelter, and professional storm-chasers run toward the danger, hoping to study the phenomenon close up and get a once-in-a-lifetime shot.

Into the Storm is a pretty poor remake of "Twister," except devoid of feeling and triumph. You have several different stories about characters we simply cannot care about, that they're trying to make us care about and a bunch of cool tornadoes. In "Twister," along with the quality characters there is a sense of momentous achievement being witnessed and the strive for one's long journey to be reached, through all the heartache along the way. This film just kinda plots you in and says care about these people, well no I didn't. However it isn't unwatchable and is somewhat thrilling. I liked the tornado lifting the Pete character into the sky. He got to live out his dream, except he didn't get to share it and then plummeted to his death. If this was turned into an animation comedy, one of the smaller tornadoes would of come and tried to pick up the fat kid, but then required a second one to lift him, like Homer and the spaceship beams. :)The time capsule idea, while poorly executed in the film got me to thinking. Now if you knew someone did this time capsule thing you could really mess with them by putting something in the footage that they wouldn't find out for how ever many years. This idea may have already been done, but a quality premise for a film I'd say.

I had only "heard" of this film from my times reviewing IMDb to see what films Alycia and Sarah had been in and noticed they were both in this one, so it was must watch because I am a fan of both actors.I did not expect to like the film as much as I did! I am a hardcore fan of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton's Twister and can watch it anytime I see it on television, so a movie about stormchasing I thought would have the same feel as Twister, but this one felt like fresh storytelling. This had drama, action, suspense, horror (imagine having a building collapse on you and water filling up the spaces so high that you are floating underwater, hanging on for dear life so you don't die while being suffocated)...my only criticism is I wish it hadn't ended so abruptly after the storm had passed. I would have like the story to continue on and wrap up in some way when it came to Allison and Gary's chemistry.

I normally do like disaster movies. Most of the time the story isn't a surprise, you just know what you will get before watching it. With Into The Storm it's the same. You know it's going to be about tornado hunters and that's basically what you get. So don't expect much more than a bunch of tornado hunters driving around to find a good spot (preferable right in the eye of the tornado) to study the ultimate monster tornado. A lot of disaster and damage, with a couple of casualties. That's what you get. But to me it was just not good enough. The computer generated images were not that good, you could clearly see that it's fake. The acting was also a bit dull and boring. Not good enough to be remembered.

Nevermind the fact this is a movie about storm chasers and there was a similar movie by the name of 'Twister' released nearly twenty years before; this movie goes ahead and beyond with only two vehicles and a few 'adventure' hungry tornado seekers – one of these vehicles is a tank that can root itself to the ground and explore the eye of a tornado, and the other is a reconnaissance vehicle meant to pick up and find storms. Each member of the team serves a specific purpose and without one, the team doesn't function – so what happens when their funding is pulled? Good answer – the leader of the group funds their last endeavor out of pocket – this will be their last trip.Where to go, what to do? This is a movie about tornadoes, so they're heading to tornado country. After narrowly missing one tornado, they head into a town which is quite literally the biggest freak occurrence for tornadoes developing ever. I will not spoil the rest of it here – but people are going to die – but you already knew this. The movie does have a few subplots that develop – they are purely as plot devices; there is no character development here – any gritty development that could occur is quickly marred by what happens in the movie.Should you watch it? I think so; storm chaser movies are rare, but the action, lack of suspense and feeling you know that a tornado is there to threaten everyone – leaves much to be desired.Originally posted to Orion Age (http://www.orionphysics.com/?p=4917).
