Absolutely fantastic musical about the golden days of hair-metal. Great cast, great selection of songs and a funny plot that maybe is a bit too cliche, but it's kind of the point! Tom Cruise as an Axl Rose send up alone, is freaking hilarious and I love Axl and GN'R! Great movie!

From lousy script to Alec Baldwin's wig, everything about this movie is awful. Except for the songs, they're quite good. Those actually encouraged me to give this two out of ten. I mean seriously, how can you make the movie so shitty with this cast! You wanna see a movie about rock n roll? Watch School of Rock. That's how rock should be portrayed.

First of all let's say that it was really interesting to see Tom Cruise reach new lengths in a role, in which probably he wouldn't be the first person to come in mind when you think about an actor who can portray a rock star. It's a funny movie with some really good songs and most of the actors do a pretty good job. (Well it's obvious that Russell Brand is the comic relief character but this doesn't mean that it's bad). The plot is not something special but I think its better this way since the point of the whole movie is to show how both the protagonists eventually change. If you are bored, want to hear some good songs and have a few laughs then this movie may turn out to be exactly what you need.

Works, just, somehow. Was initially very unimpressed: I hate musicals and this seemed like a movie-length version of Glee (the episode- length version of Glee is bad enough). However, it does grow on you. The plot is threadbare, and predictable, but the movie does have an energy and momentum that makes it easy to watch. The music helps too.Another positive is the all-star supporting cast. Lead roles are by unknowns whose performances are so-so (though I really don't mind seeing Julianne Hough!). No, it is the supporting cast that give the best performances, but what did you expect with names like Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bryan Cranston and Malin Ackerman, plus Mary J Blige for some musical credibility. The faded rock star is the most interesting character, and is well-portrayed by Tom Cruise, who seems positively in his element in the role. The only negative with so many names is that some hardly have any screen time. I felt that the talents of Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand were wasted.Overall, better than first expected.
