"Beverly Hills Chihuahua" was good for what it was: a kid's movie for its time. Looking back, the CGI is quite dated and the story line is pretty generic. It's definitely no classic that people would enjoy watching again in their adulthood, but there's been much worse movies out there that are more cringeworthy. Despite its generic story line, it's nothing more than a harmless sappy movie with some good morals thrown in.

I wasn't a fan of BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA 2 and 3, but the original makes up for it all: a talking- dog movie that's also a strangely involving exploration into a chihuahua's racial roots. The DOGS & CATS franchise was more of a Hollywood caper (with loyal dogs and unreliable cats mixing it up); sure, BHC has the expected animated dog voices, but the film has more of a "I can't believe I'm actually enjoying this" feel. Yes, the south-of-the-border chihuahuas in this film actually have Mexican accents, and spend a long time exploring their doggie heritage. This is truly a classic.

I honestly was not expecting much of anything from Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2006). I was actually expecting to be bored out of my mind. I wasn't completely wrong, but I certainly wasn't right either. This family friendly film does get some laughs, and it does have amusing humor that is very age appropriate. Jamie Lee Curtis was perfectly cast for her role as Aunt Viv, loved her in the movie. Also, Drew Barrymore was awesome as the voice of Chloe! I'm a big Barrymore fan! George Lopez was alright as the voice of Papi I suppose, honestly he wouldn't have been my first choice though. His voice was kinda annoying to be honest. The movie was pretty entertaining overall, humorous at times, and it had some adventure in other parts. There was some lagging in the middle of the film, it stalled a little bit and lost momentum. But luckily it picked backed up towards the end. This movie had delightful well written characters that I enjoyed seeing too. So overall this is a pretty good but not great family friendly film. 6/10.

OK, i think everyone who thinks this is just a dumb kids' movie, "professional" critics included, have missed the point completely! There are archetypal characters, the full arc of self-fulfillment, the classic fallen hero restored, and the more mundane messages of not judging the book by it's cover and helping homeless pets find homes. There are the broad strokes of good vs evil, overcoming odds, and dog fighting is bad. I spent less time laughing at this movie than i did cheering for the characters. The title is the worst ever, absolutely the worst. I personally know that everyone i told to see this movie hadn't planned to because of the title, but they were all impressed. Yes, it is cute dogs, yes it is Disney, yes there are some obvious stereotypes and obvious literary licenses taken. But if you don't get that each central character has gone through a journey and come out on the other side, then you are just seeing the cover of the book.
