Evolution (2001)
A comedy that follows the chaos that ensues when a meteor hits the Earth carrying alien life forms that give new meaning to the term "survival of the fittest." David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, Seann William Scott, and Julianne Moore are the only people standing between the aliens and world domination... which could be bad news for the Earth.

What I like about this movie is that not only funny, but also the aliens that come from the meteorite had been in many forms since their arrival. They come in many forms to wildlife except being hostile species and wanting to invade our world. For the characters being goofballs, it reminds me Ghostbusters in how to deal with these invasive creatures like how science is able to defeat them, same with the characters in Ghostbusters in how they invent technologies to defeat the ghosts. That's what makes the film impressive.
Campy. But in a 90s way. Not intentionally so, but the stink of the 90s all over it. We looked it up. After 9/11? Uncomfortably close. Duchovny is not mulder, but he is. Plot doesn't matter. Creature movies are good. Scifi movies, where the scary thing is an oversimplification of one reasonably interesting scientific concept, are good. What if the monster kept evolving? Became a microcosm of evolutionary process. That movie needed to be made. It probably already had been.Is it a comedy? Well, yes. It is comedic. But it's like some characters are in a different movie than others. Like a slapstick and a procedural, side by side. Uneasy balance. The mood shifts.Essentially a demo reel for what range of bio monsters you could make with CGI in the early aughts. Looks like a video game, now. This movie tries some weird things, at least. It's pretty dumb, though.
It looked fine. The effects all looked convincing, the camera movement was good Hollywood and the clarity was good. I watched in stereo and it sounded good. Well balanced and crisp. The sound effects were slightly comedic and that suited perfectly. This is pure mind-relaxing cheese. It is a fun ride without being too memorable. It is pretty funny too. Not as good as Ghostbusters (1984). A fluffy journey that will make you smile but the memory won't last.
I'm not necessarily ready or prepared or even planning on writing a review for this movie but am wondering how a fairly popular movie with such an all star cast does not appear to have any message thread at the bottom of it's page here. It has nearly 400 user reviews but no message thread? The reason why I'm looking to add an entry to a message thread in the first place is because I'm surprised that this kind of movie only has 12 trivial items. I figured there would be more considering the use of it's special effects and also possibly references to other movies or characters plus the fact this movie is over 15 years old.
