I'd heard some bad things about this but thought I'd check it out anyway cos sometimes hype is wrong.First off it's well made, looks great, got some good people in it - Douglas, Wilson, Dillon, Hudson, Rogan, Hader. So it's not all bad - I think 1 star is a bit harsh.I know it's "just a comedy" but even so ... I found myself feeling increasingly sorry for Dillon's character. In a staggering act of altruism he takes in his down-and-out friend right after he's just got married. He's not doing it for his benefit - it just complicates his new domestic situation and doesn't benefit him in the slightest. Does the wife support him in his charitable act? Hell no, she gets all judgy and stern about it.His, presumably mentally ill, friend makes zero effort to keep a low profile or make it work but instead seems to go to great lengths to aggravate them both by pulling a succession of inconsiderate stunts. OK so you'd expect the wife to start having a problem somewhere along the line here and of course she kicks into higher gear rage and sternness - by the end of the film her husband is absolutely terrified of her. Hard to imagine how he could feel the same way about her after that.Meanwhile, his father-in-law/boss starts to exploit the fact he's married to his daughter to manipulate and bully him in and out of work. This was all a tad hard to believe. The husband keeps it together remarkably well throughout all this but they just keep upping the ante, including his friends suddenly deciding to throw a party at his house when he's not at home and Dupree masturbating using his sock in their living room, while spending a conspicuous amount of time getting drunk with his wife.By the end of this I just wanted to punch Dupree in the face, bury the father-in-law under his stupid housing development, beam Hudson back in time to an era when a guy wouldn't even ask before inviting his friend to stay, and take Dillon out for a hard-earned beer.OK OK OK so I know I've gone and taken a comedy story out of context. I know that. I do. I'm not a total idiot. Regardless of that though, this was a very predictable weak comedy by any standards. The only bit that really raised a smile for me was the slapstick chase at the end. After the setup it was blindingly obvious Dupree was going to be a nightmare and the wife was going to get angry all the time. I guess the father-in-law thing could've been interesting, but it wasn't. Just not funny writing I'm afraid. Low hanging fruit, already been done to death better. As usual in Hollywood movies, marriage is portrayed as men in indentured servitude to stern wives who they're afraid of and have to ask permission off for everything. What kind of a message is that? Fruthermore, there's just something altogether too perfect about the pretty people with their pretty house and boats. Unless the quality of the comedy is good, to me it just rubs my nose in an imaginary world I know is a lie and that I can never be a part of. The saccharin overdose only works if the script is well written. Otherwise it's just annoying. As for all the Lance Armstrong references - well, that's just bad luck! So I think my three stars are rather generous but they're for the production values and some of the acting. The writer and Dupree's stupid face get a minus 10.

'You, Me and Dupree' is Good Fun. The humor here does get tedious, but overall, the result is undeniably entertaining. 'You, Me and Dupree' Synopsis: A best man stays on as a house-guest with the newlyweds, much to the couple's annoyance. 'You, Me and Dupree' is a decent entertainer. It has some truly funny sequences, along-with some truly impressive performances from it's talented cast. Michael LeSieur's Screenplay is funny, but it does get tedious at times. Anthony Russo & Joe Russo's Direction, is mild. Cinematography, Editing & Art Design, are passable.Performance-Wise: Owen Wilson is awesome as Dupree. The effortless actor steals the show! Kate Hudson is perfect. Matt Dillon suits the part & he is suitably restrained. Michael Douglas does his bit well. Seth Rogen supports well. Others lend support. On the whole, 'You, Me and Dupree' is worth a watch.

From brother directors Joe and Anthony Russo (Welcome to Collinwood), I recognised this comedy film mainly because of the star playing the title character, so I had to give it a go. Basically Molly (Kate Hudson) and Carl (Matt Dillon) have recently got married, and they plan to settle very quickly in a new house with good careers. Carl however has his best friend (and best man) Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson) telling him he has just lost his job because of attending the wedding, and he is homeless. Carl decides to let Dupree stay with him until he can get back on his feet, which doesn't please Molly, and within a few days he is causing nothing but trouble. Dupree is also outstaying his welcome by being lazy and not looking often enough for a job, and dating a mysterious librarian girl. While Molly has to put up with her husband's best friend, well, she does get used to it, Carl is trying to get used to his overpowering father-in-law Mr. Thompson (Michael Douglas) who wants Molly to keep her maiden name and for herself and possible children, don't worry, everything is settled in the end. Also starring Seth Rogen as Neil, Amanda Detmer as Annie, Ralph Ting as Toshi, Knocked Up's Bill Hader as Mark and Lance Armstrong. Wilson manages to captivate with appearances in films like Zoolander and Meet the Parents, and while he doesn't fail to make laughs, it's not enough to carry the film fully, same with Hudson and Dillon, but it's not bad. Okay!

I know what you're gonna say. How could you actually enjoy You, me,and Dupree? I only assume that because it got a 5.7 on here, and I don't think that's very reasonable. I didn't love You, me, and Dupree, but I was one of the rare few who actually enjoyed it. Now if i were the main characters, Carl(Matt Dillon) and Molly(Kate Hudson), I probably would've jumped across that table and strangled Dupree(Owen Wilson). Dupree is a somewhat lovable character, but he would irritate me also. Masterbating in the living room, sleeping naked on the couch, setting the house on fire, and other things. I probably would've killed Dupree also. He sort of reminded me of Bob Wiley, if you've seen that movie. I love that movie. You, me,and Dupree is a likable film, and I think you should see it.The Plot:A newly married couple takes there friend Dupree in for shelter. But Dupree is a party animal;, and causes a load of crap to happen. Crap that may even ruin their marriage.
