nothing unexpected. or surprising. or memorable. good acting, nice script, action and a formal story. old/classic war between Good and Bad , the love, friendship, super powers and secrets, adventure and noble moral values, mysterious meets and predictable end. far to be a great film, using many/too many clichés, it is a nice film, part of popular trend, work of interesting actors and wise for the use of fascination about secrets/thirst of conspiracies as basic tool. so,one of films about well known themes in a new/ at the first sigh/ package. so, entertainment. or contemporary version of fairy tale. and , more important, a decent film who gives nothing more than you expect from it.
Push had a pretty interesting plot in an exciting world. I had no trouble becoming vested in the characters and story but I did wish there was more background on the life of the main character. Still, they gave us plenty. The show was full of twists and turns all of which you should expect from a suspense, mystery, superhero, thriller. In the end this movie did what all good movies do, leave you wanting more. I can't help but feel this movie has been very underrated. I have re-watched this movie several times and it was even entertaining the second time. I hope someday it's gets a sequel .. I would like to know how it ultimately all turns out.
With its young expatriate protagonists on the run from those who would exploit their powers, all set against the backdrop of an exotic Asian setting, 'Push' is sort of like 'X-Men' via cyberpunk godfather William Gibson. All of the mythology and mumbo-jumbo has clearly been well thought out here, but after its initial info dump very little of it is clearly explained, forcing you to piece it together as best you can. It's certainly a stylish film, and the various powers are rendered in interesting ways, but the film is sorely lacking in tension, making the whole affair seem rather weightless.
I watched this movie without knowing anything about it but that it would contain some sort of superhuman powers and therefore expected it to be of the typical flat, boring kind (see Jumper). But I was in for a surprise. What fascinated me about this film is that the director makes his characters use their special powers in ways I haven't seen in a movie before and that are interesting and fresh takes on "standard" powers. I had many a discussion after a night out at the movies where me and my friends discussed along the line of "why didn't he just do this and that - i mean, seriously this guy could teleport (see Jumper again)!" - In PUSH I had quite a few moments where I thought "Yes! That's what I always meant!" The visuals where absolutely to my liking, too. The whole movie has a very exotic touch due to the setting in Hong Kong and the very colourful and slightly over-saturated scenery. From a graphic designer's point of view the movie contains some very beautifully arranged and composed shots.Personally I found that the development of the characters was more than expected and I found myself really caring pretty early into the movie. There is the occasional scene with a B-movie feel to it, but the overall performance is very satisfying. The one possible downfall that has also been pointed out in other reviews is the density of relevant story elements crammed into the beginning of the movie. I missed a few clues during my first watch of this movie (yes, I am a repeating offender) and was left confused later on. The second time I watched the movie the missing parts all came together though. It is all there, but easy to miss if not prepared.I wanted to be a 'Mover' for weeks after watching this movie, so take this as a sign how it entertained me :)
