As many others have stated, the writing here is abysmal. The single reason this movie gets a "3" instead of a "1" is this tiny plot point: The Republican Senator who is on the take from the Russians, is murdered in the first five minutes. This foreign graft is prescient of the state of the current Congress so embroiled with Russian intrigue. Hopefully, this will remind American voters that the foxes aren't guarding the henhouse-they're in it.

The movie has a very weak plot line and this been further weakened by poor acting and direction. The movie has a few plot points which should have been focused on but are instead left fuzzy. The plot is unclear and leaves us confused. Where it is clear, the plot is a cliché and uninteresting. At some points in the movie the music is unrelated to what is going on. The story doesn't build up smoothly as you would expect but instead tries to woo you with the action movie clichés and uncaptivating action sequences. The movie doesn't deliver on the plot line or the action sequences. I wouldn't recommend watching this movie. PS: A good alternative would be to check out "The Most Wanted Man"

Rarely have I experienced such a lighthearted romp. Through the dimly lit streets of DC, an FBI Agent drags his loser-CIA-has-been, companion through some really hilarious moments of turmoil and espionage. What a blast. Adding to the joviality, the pavement always has that recently-rained-on-sheen allowing shoes to make really cool splishy-splashy sounds while our farcical pair jog here…turn around…and run there. Talk about fun-filled suspense. With oh so many twists-and-turns, this movie's intenseness, intrigue and blistering pace make it a hard cookie to describe and difficult to take serious. I think the Romans would have labeled this simply an 'odiosis fabula.' Let's face it - this is one cloak-and-dagger slog superbly molded for the gormless. The inane plot's execution is so ingenuous the most fatuous will easily comprehend it. Additionally, the shots of D.C. are so spectacularly repeated, they almost redefine ad nauseam. This is a movie for the ages. I am so impressed I am running out right now and buying the DVD. I want to brag about ownership to all my friends. The heck with that – I am going to shout this out to the world. Phew – I am winded just thinking about this flick. Anyways…if you have not seen this yet, you are not alone. Let's see if we can see this one together…or not.

A spy thriller in a line of spy thrillers that manages to captivate and entertain its audience, if not thrill. Following a formula to the letter, The Double is predictable to the last plot point, and the pretty packaging of this movie is tied up with a bow, not in the least surprising though it attempts one surprise after another. You'll quickly understand the intent of the plot, and the identity of the characters, but Gere and Grace are strong enough actors that they can turn predictable characters into interesting performances.Russian spies in the U.S., but for how long? According to FBI Agent Ben Geary, they have been for as long as you can imagine. He is hot on the trail of long-ghosted assassin Cassius, a man never identified and never caught when the Russians were the worst threat the CIA could imagine, back in the 80's and 90's. According to CIA Agent Paul Shepherdson, though, those days are over. Begin sparring between agencies to get to the bottom of a mystery, or perhaps begin re-looking at what everyone thinks they know. You won't have to watch long to understand the true story behind the story, but you'll want to watch to see just how it all plays out.
