You know, I had recently watched a film called Leap Year and it isn't as good as I remembered it. The trailer for it was utterly predictable; basically showing you how it ends, which of course can be seen miles away. It isn't necessarily about the destination however, the journey can be seen as vital also. At the time I was not bothered by Anna, played by Amy Adams. Initially I thought it was just a breezy, light romantic comedy; nothing to be taken seriously. Of course, and I still stand by this; Matthew Goode steals this film, although just barely. The character of Anna is absolutely annoying. There are no redeeming qualities about her. I mean, I get it; she is an uptight shrew to Matthew Goode's easygoing, mature Declan. It is a fish-out-of-water, opposites attract, type of comedy but it isn't really likable. The story is paper-thin, which is to be expected, therefore relying on the chemistry and the situational stuff between the two leads.It's basically her going to Dublin so she could propose to her longtime boyfriend, played by Adam Scott since she was expecting a proposal from him at the start of the film. There's supposed to be a significance of doing it on leap year based on some familial tradition. She rejects the idea at first, but then decides to go ahead with it anyway because if she didn't, then there wouldn't be a movie. It's a bit hard to believe this was filmed in the year 2009; mostly depicting Ireland as some backwoods country, where people are walking stereotypes who have not caught up with modern times. I would think it's pretty insulting. There is one scene I like after Anna's expensive shoes are ruined and Declan tells her, "Put 'em in the wash. They'll be grand."

Leap year is a great story of people trying to live with their insecurities, wounds and expectations for future. Matthew Goode and Amy Adams are just excellent at their roles and people you can connect with as an ordinary person. Anna is the modern girl who works hard to reach her dreams and Declan the guy who needs somebody to believe in his strength and talents to bloom.Their story of true love is intriguing and so sweet that you wish you could also live something like that in a lifetime. Irelands' landscapes with the rough but exciting countryside is the best scenery for a romance to grow. It was worth watching from its big start.

Amy Adams plays a go getter who heads for Dublin in order to get her cardiologist boyfriend (Adam Scott) to accept her wedding proposal by scheduling it on leap day. The reason being he cannot refuse due to the tradition of the country (which is false by the way). She gets detoured as her plane gets diverted and has to find her way to Dublin where she meets grumpy innkeeper Matthew Goode.The film is unfunny, full of stereotypical and non believable characters, even the scenery looks poor as a lot of its bad green screen.As a romantic comedy it fails. You feel little appeal for Adams character and I found Goode's curmudgeon to be off putting as well. No wonder Goode has washed his hands off the film and I expected better from Adams who may I remind you is a five time Oscar nominee.
