Safe Men (1998)

I'll start off with this. I don't usually talk about movies at work. Mainly because people tend to have different tastes than me. But I found myself telling people about this movie after I watched it.I caught this one on Netflix the other night. I really enjoyed it. I like Sam Rockwell as an actor, I don't know if I can relate to him, or if he just brings that old style of comedy back to the screen. The story of the script is OK and I would have like to see a little more back story, but all in all, it held its own. Or maybe just some more "buddy" type interaction. Sam and Steve have that kind of chemistry, and could pull of quite a bit that most wouldn't be able to get away with.I would put this in the same section as Support Your Local Sheriff or Spies like Us. I know they aren't the same genre but I really think that The two main leads in this movie have that same kind of bond, like in those films.

If you like extremely witty dialog humor and situational comedy then this is certainly the movie for you. This one requires at least four viewings to catch all the funny little lines. I do not collect movies. There are very few I care to watch more than once or twice. However, I own this one and have watched it about 25 times. I love turning friends/family onto it. Haven't had a "rejection" yet! Extremely quotable movie. It is no wonder that the main actors as well as the writer/director in this Indie film all have major careers in Hollywood now. If you like gag humor and think "That 70's Show" is funny... stay away from this one... you won't get it.

This is definitely a love it or be underwhelmed by it comedy. Me personally, it cracks the hell out of me. And most of my friends. Its set in Rhode Island and it seems to perfectly represent the stranger aspects of South Eastern New England humor. There is such a thing, and if you are from Rhode Island or Southeastern Massachusetts, and you are cool, you will have a better shot at finding this film hilarious. The characters are really what makes it great. From Vealchop and Big Fat Bernie Gail and Little Big Fat, to LeFleur and Mr. Blue, this film is literally bursting with excellent characters. I'm not saying you'll definitely like it, but if you do, you'll have a friend for life.

and 1999 and 2000 and well, I'd venture to say its one of the best indie comedies in perhaps 10 years or more! Thank you john hamburg and crew for treating audiences to a heapin helpin of veal chop, padded a$$, and mc "pimp limp" victor!
