Seeing an evil spirit everywhere around her, a young woman finds that is the dead soul of her stillborn twin brother attempting to reenter the world it should've been born into and tries to stop it from succeeding in its wishes. On the whole this one was a highly enjoyable effort with a lot to like about it. One of the better parts to this one is the film's rather impressive amount of encounters throughout here, which is pretty rampant along the way. The opening dream, with the mask-wearing dog and the fetus in the jar, sets things up nicely as to the possibilities of what's going on in here as this builds incredibly nicely into the later scenes of the insects crawling after her, the ghost attack in the bathroom, and the growing number of sightings in her life being quite fun. This is furthered by the fine attacks throughout here, most notably the manifestation in the club appearing from the bathroom stall amidst a swarm of insects and otherworldly hands breaking through the walls while another rather creepy scene of her dreaming of the ghostly being violently clawing into her womb. Even more enjoyable in the first half here is the build-up of other great factors throughout with the eye problems and voices that are all nicely explained here with the stories of the spirit wanting to cross over from fore and the connection with twins that nicely explains all the different events and connections in here. That as well follows through into the film's best point in its final half as the explanations are all given and focuses the best action here with the enraged creature using its best tricks and most furious attacks here, from the deformed being chasing after the woman in the retirement home, the brutal stalking of the best friend in by the demonically-encouraged child and the finale here with the big exorcism taking place in the abandoned church where everything comes together into a grand time. The different rites that need to be performed, the setting and the main sequence of it throwing the equipment around to disrupt the ceremony followed by the possessed participants of the ceremony making for some thrilling, exciting action. These here all manage to hold off the few small, barely detrimental flaws here. The most obvious feature this one is the rather convoluted and complex plot that doesn't give off all sorts of questions here. There's little here that makes sense, as the supposed art that would've explained this in the back-story to the concentration camp only tells of the type of creature but nothing else and it leaves this one with all sorts of unanswered questions throughout the film. As well, the other flaw here is the obviously toned-down feeling in here in regards to the sleaze and kills, deliberately missing those elements yet purposefully trying to appeal in that regard with brutal, bloodless kills and scenes of her continuously in her underwear but blocks out the shower scene and keeping it to the aftermath of the sex scene. These here hold it down, but it's still better than expected.Rated PG-13: Violence and Language.

Reading the IMDb member reviews of The Unborn, I cannot help but observe that everyone is so intent on bending over backwards to be politically correct, that viewers of the future - for whom the IMDb is really intended -- may completely miss the point. The point is that there exists a sub- sub- sub- genre of horror in which the story is just adequate; the direction is merely adequate; the cinematography is simply adequate ..... and yet the actress cast in the lead role is totally mesmerizing. At least to male viewers. Now I understand this is a sensitive topic, and no one talks about it, but, c'mon, give this poor reviewer a break, just (Exhibit #1 for the Prosecution) look at the artwork for the DVD cover, and you cannot help but notice that, rather than a horror film, you might perhaps think you were buying a 60s Bond film. In the artwork selected by the studio for the DVD cover, ostensibly lifted from the infamous "mirror" scene in the film -- which actually was pretty well done -- Odette Yustman (aka Odette Annable) is provocatively posed in her underwear, photographed from the (er) rear, nothing especially scary is going on, and that, ladies and gents, pretty much rests the case for the prosecution. Films of this odd sub-genre tend to become classics for this specific reason, and (trust me) the audience they appeal to is NOT the same audience that stands in line for Oprah. (Another example, the 1990 B-film Christina's House, starring an actress now almost entirely lost to obscurity, is also a cult hit for the very same reason.) Yes, yes, when the other IMDb reviewers tell you this is barely adequate horror film with merely competent technicals, they are telling you the truth. But not the whole truth...

Writer / director David S. Goyers' "The Unborn" may work as passable entertainment for those genre fans who never expect too much from their movies. It does come up with a somewhat different gimmick, drawing from Jewish mysticism and even working the Holocaust into its story. But for the most part, it's the same old thing, done the same old way, with a plethora of digital effects and supposedly creepy imagery. It's your tried and true story of a tormented lead character repeatedly experiencing all kinds of disturbing visions. In this case, that character is young woman Casey Beldon (Odette Annable), who comes to fear that a malevolent spirit known as a dybbuk is out to get her. She first seeks assistance from a nursing home resident named Sofi Kozma (Jane Alexander), and then a rabbi named Joseph Sendak (Gary Oldman). Eventually Sendak attempts an exorcism, leading to the usual mayhem. The efforts of an extremely sincere cast raise this to average level; otherwise, this would be substantially boring if not incompetently made. It definitely looks great, with great wintry atmosphere and moody lighting courtesy of James Hawkinson. Oldman and Alexander are standouts; also in the cast are Cam Gigandet, Meagan Good, a rock solid Idris Elba, Atticus Shaffer as the requisite creepy kid, Carla Gugino, Rhys Coiro, and James Remar and C.S. Lee from the TV series 'Dexter'.Given how straight faced cast and crew are with the material, it has to be assumed that any laughter on the part of the viewer is of the unintentional variety. Overall the movie is pretty silly at times, but that does keep it amusing.Five out of 10.

Can someone tell me if he ever has seen a PG-13 horror that works. There are a few decent moments that can make you jump but obviously it's easy to see that it's a PG_13, for example, when Casey (Odette Annable)is going to bed we always see her in the bathroom, in her underwear. It do looks sexy but she never takes off her shirt or even under the shower she never shows anything. And yes, she do comes close to be a Megan Fox copy. I also never saw any blood or gory moments, what it do has is a few jumpscene's and some nice effects. The best thing I saw was an old man turning in some kind of dog or spider (remember Exorcist). Gary Oldman is in it too, so I guess the producers thought they were making the next big thing in horror land. But they didn't. It's easily watchable for kids under 13. Harry Potter has more scarier moments. Too many blah blah and not that much going on except to see Odette's cameltoe, could be scary too...Almost the same story about Jewish ghosts can be seen and better in The Possession (2012). Too much CGI effects, it do has it's moments but it just didn't work out.Gore 0/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 3/5 Story 2,5/5 Comedy 0/5
