The events of Battle of Gods take place some years after the battle with Majin Buu, which determined the fate of the entire universe. After awakening from a long slumber, Beerus, the God of Destruction is visited by Whis, his attendant and learns that the galactic overlord Frieza has been defeated by a Super Saiyan from the North Quadrant of the universe named Goku, who is also a former student of the North Kai. Ecstatic over the new challenge, Goku ignores King Kai's advice and battles Beerus, but he is easily overwhelmed and defeated. Beerus leaves, but his eerie remark of "Is there nobody on Earth more worthy to destroy?" lingers on. Now it is up to the heroes to stop the God of Destruction before all is lost.

I'm not sure why I waited this long to finally watch this. Maybe because deep down inside I knew DBZ was dead and everything thing after The Cell saga is just filler. Or if you are a true DBZ purist, everything after the Frezia saga is just filler. Whatever, this is just another Dragonball Z movie. It isn't anything special, like most DBZ films. The fighting is whatever. The story is lame. But what really gets my goat is how Goku literally holds hands with a few other guys in order to get to the next level. No training, no nearly dying. Just holding hands. In top of that, Goku saying, "I give up." Just what the heck? I don't know what I just watched but it isn't DBZ. So yeah, this movie literally confirms the fact that Dragonball Z has officially become nothing but a soulless cash grab.

This film really succeeds in bringing the Dragonball franchise back to life. Nostalgic and humorous moments dot the movie. The dub is great and its good to hear the original VA's. Beerus is a great villain and it is good to see a breakaway from the formula- Goku has to accept that SPOILER- he can't beat Beerus, well not yet anyway. The fight was well animated but a bit short for a DBZ film, however it had great tension and high stakes. The score is also brilliant and fitting for the new level of power reached by Goku. A highlight is "Birth of a super saiyan God"- and it is refreshing to see a transformation that is peaceful and graceful rather than screaming for 5 minutes. I liked the new form and I think that it is more than a recolor. The god-form also is skinnier and more flawless to give a deity like feel. The aura is also pretty cool. Overall this is a great movie for new and old fans of the world of DB.

This movie was just spectacular in my opinion. The whole point of the movie was not to show raging violent fighting scenes, or have you looking at 2 people staring at each other for an hour or more (Yes I am referring to the Broly movie and Frieza saga), this movie was about something else entirely. I loved this movie for many reasons, but it was mainly the way Beerus and Whis were introduced to us, the way Vegeta, "The Prince of all Saiyans", made a fool of himself just to keep Beerus calm, and the (not so surprising) plot twist in the end. Just to be clear, I am talking about how Beerus, like many other opponents in DBZ, was introduced as the most powerful in the universe, but this time, he lived up to that name. Goku SSJ3 couldn't even make him move an inch with his most powerful punch, and one hit knocked him out. Vegeta, without even seeing Beerus' power, did something we never even began to think he would do, completely embarrassed himself, just so Beerus would stay calm. And then when Whis took out Beerus effortlessly, putting a surprising end to the movie. Those were the main things I liked. But this movie was so good not just for those parts, it's the way Goku acted in God form, he was so angry he couldn't achieve that energy on his own, and when he did he didn't even realize it.This movie was EXACTLY what DBZ is all about, and I personally find it the best DBZ movie of all 14

Another action packed super Kung Fu outing for Dragonball. The movie is everything that the animated series was but with a condensed time period.A cat God awakens after 50 years of sleep in order to battle a mythical Super Saiyan God, but finding only Goku and his friends not worthy could spell doom for the planet Earth, unless a wish from the Dragonball can help. I'll be honest, I have a short attention span and it sometimes frustrated me having to wait two of three episodes for a battle that would last two of three episodes(that part I liked), but this movie proves that you can get to the action nice and quick. But I will admit, for a movie about the ultimate power level the fight sequences were not the best I've seen in Dragonball. It would not make my Top ten. I guess when you reach that level the fight does not need to take that long.Like most movies these days, Dragonball wants to examine it's heroes, pointing out the flaw in Goku as being addicted to fighting and examining the long road all the characters toke to get to this place, using puns and one liners. The geek that I am love this concept, especially since it's true that Goku can't back away from a fight. The animation was cool, but not overall better than what the series did.Overall, it's been a long time since I have a good helping of some Dragonball, and this film was satisfying
