This film doesn't know what it wants to be, and it certainly isn't what it says it is.First, it isn't about lying, as much as it is Gervais' opportunity to preach his gospel. Yes, this is an evangelical atheist film. And that fine, if that is what he wants it to be. But don't deceive people into saying it is a comedy about lying, then use that as an opportunity to harass, insult, and bully people who share a different belief system. Because that is what the film does for a majority of the time. And what is ironic is that toward the end of the film is a scene where a young boy with an ice cream cone is harassed by other boys--and the film points out everything that is wrong with this. But then the film in its essence is doing EXACTLY that to Christians.Second, apparently lying is also tied to tact according to this film. People blurt out whatever they are thinking--even without being asked. That's not lying--that's tact. It one thing to tell the truth. It's another to simply tell everyone on the street the first thing that pops into your head.Third, the film isn't very funny--and I like dry British wit. But as I said, this is about poking fun at people more than anything, and that isn't really that funny, at least not for long. Finally, what is this film really about? The first act is about the only man in the world who has learned to lie, and how that helps him get ahead. Then act two is suddenly about poking fun at religion, as I said. Then act three is a romantic comedy (but very dark comedy) is about romance and the less desirable guy getting the hot girl.As you can see, there is a lot of opportunity in this film, but the parts just didn't connect for me.

When did Ricky Gervais stop being funny. Somewhere around the end of 'The Office'? Or was he never really funny to start with? This film certainly proves that he's not the funny, and manages to spread out a very simple one joke idea into a feature length film.If anything it's the supporting cast who come out of this the best. Jennifer Garner, Tina Fey, Rob Lowe - they all manage to get laughs out of a weak script, and play their characters with grace and skill. There's not a lot to recommend this film other than that really, only to say that's it not quite as bad as 'Ghost Town' or Gervais's turn in the 'Muppets Most Wanted'.

If there is a concept of selling and buying something then definitely lie was before that. When I saw the first lie was invented in a bank in this movie then immediately I have shift deleted the movie. Because the concept was wrong. -------------------------. ----------------------------. -------------------------------. ----------------------------------. ------------------------------------. ---------------------------------------. ------------------------------------------. I have written unnecessary lines because I have to make 10 lines at least to pass IMDb filter.

Be warned before watching this movie...I was excited to see this. The premise is original and fun. To its credit, the movie starts out delivering what it promises too, being very funny. However, the story takes a turn that you need to know about before you begin watching it.If you are OK with what I am going to tell you, then I suspect that you will be able to enjoy the movie. The theme of the movie is ANTI- Christian. It is an attack on the Christian faith...When watching this movie, I had to stop about half way through and do a Google search of the creator Ricky Gervais to confirm what I began to suspect by the way the story was unfolding. Gervais is an atheist. I read about how in his young life he came to reject Christianity due to his own experiences and even developed a strong hatred of Christianity. You can believe anything you like, Mr Gervais. But when you create a movie that attacks people's sacred beliefs, it should go without saying that you be up front and direct about it and NOT VEIL YOUR ATTEMPT TO CONVINCE THE AUDIENCE OF YOUR OWN BELIEFS as just a light-hearted comedy, you weaselly little man.
