This isn't a movie. It's a live concert marketed in a quick money grubbing way to screw what is left of their fans who are mostly 14 year old kids taking their allowance money the first few years they are into metallic as guitar hero is obsolete. Everything hateful said about this movie is true and more. After lulu, some kind of monster and so forth I'd be ashamed to say I'm a metallic fan. When we are that age and getting into metal they are great but it's like looking back at cartoons we thought were bad ass when we were kids and now laugh at.real bands have made films and they were successful. The wall, anvils documentary, even spinal tap or mark W... (guy in Ted who smokes pot with the bear) movie rock star which is loosely based on Tim ripper owners joining Judas priest. I mean they could have done a story about how they got famous instead of a crappy MTV/VH1 documentary where Scott Ian of anthrax praises you and a bunch of nobodies/rehashed interviews spliced together. But NOPE lets put a live show on and put some useless dialog in that makes no sense. It could have been a never give up and follow your dreams or be yourself sort of story with some loss like cliff which every idiot will mention and focus on their glory days. But nope, lets put a live show in with recent I can't sing any more , i can't drum, i can't solo and who the heck is on bass abilities from the most over rated band in the world that you are ashamed to say that you were a fan of to people if you are over 20-30.so if I was to shoot a movie about metallic. Focus on how they met, hire some actors, write a script.. you know.. a REAL movie. Get some kids who look like early Dave Mustaine , James, Kirk , Lars and Cliff and talk about Dave's departure. Cliffs death and how they persevered (god a metallic fan using 3 syllable word) and finish with Metallica today and some voice over work or whatever. They set the bar Olympic high with some kind of monster so they could have made anything better without trying but NOPE. Please fire kirk, buy James a shopping cart full of booze, get a drum machine and make them all have a tearful apology for releasing load if people go past the credits that will shut the fans up who hate it and st. anger which aren't mentioned in that atrocity. If "metallic" wanted to rob us of our hard earned money bad enough they should have wore ski masks and robbed us instead of spending a multimillion dollar budget. I hate IMDb spell check for not letting me put the bands name so when you see metallic it is that over rated band only kids listen to

This is a two-layered film. There is the live action concert footage, then there is a fictional layer about Trip the roadie. The camera work was crisply shot with excellent equipment and was brilliantly edited. The sound was seamlessly joined to it.Some of the most powerful moments for me were when the thousands of audience members sang the choruses in unison, while the band listened and encouraged. I wished I had been there.-----Scores-----Cinematography: 10/10 Inventive and of professional quality; excellent camera crew and film editing.Sound: 10/10 The sound quality and editing were great.Acting: 7/10 Loved the live action concert performances. James Hetfield is quite the showman. The icing from the Trip video did not add anything. Fortunately, the sound editing moved across those parts without a hitch.Screenplay: 7/10 Fortunately, the live action concert footage was dominant. I liked the lasers and pyrotechnics, plus the way the props crew constructed huge pieces while the band continued. The so-so fictional sub-plot about the roadie, Trip, was less interesting.

Crowds out there are only in it because of Metallica; I went there mostly because of up-and-coming star Dane DeHaan and the movie within the show and I admit I got more than what I was looking for. Though not that much of a fan of the band (I like some of their music) I acknowledge its power among their devoted fans, and they deserve to be on the top of the game because they deliver a spectacle, they deliver a true rock n'roll concert, loud and clear, and so magnificent that you might become a fan of theirs after the film, if you weren't before. What about Dane? Excellent choice in the minor adventure that jumps back and forth between the show, with some little interaction between Trip, his roadie character, and the band."Metallica Through the Never" revolves around the band performing their classics and a story involving Trip, one of their roadies, embarking on a strange adventure trying to pick up a mysterious bag. Trip's long journey is surrounded with danger, crashes, explosions, protests and stuff, greatly matched with the sound of James Hetfield and his troupe to be heard at full volume. Director Nimród Antal's concept was quite good, though lacking in more substance. It reminded me a bit of that Duran Duran gig in the 1980's where they joined with the real Duran Duran played again by Milo O'Shea in "Barbarella", but that was a more interactive concert with the actor appearing from time to time on the stage while DeHaan's voiceless character pops in with the group in brief moments. But there's fascinating visual effects (the pyrotechnic effects on the show are truly effective), and a positively engaging adventure to follow through. It feels fresh, unique and visually captivating, though it doesn't answer anything. The acting was great and the concert even more explosive. The movie points a way on how we should experience music in a different light, creating the images after what's already composed, with themes from the many different albums and you form a image of the whole. That kind of experiment would work better if the director (and I'm not sure if Antal was deeply involved behind Metallica's show) selected the songs and tried to create a film afterwards with a plausible storyline. Not exactly like "Tommy" or "The Wall" were, but I'm talking about mixing several albums from a said artist and work a script around those music and lyrics. While more of those aren't invented, I dream of a "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" version. Antal could make it work, he's got the visuals, the technique, everything to make a great musical out of that. 8/10

I've just watched this and don't quite know what to make of it.Whilst I love my hard rock and heavy metal, I'm not a massive fan of Metallica however I'd heard about this and wanted to check it out. I must admit, I want to see them live now though! If this is an indication of their concerts and level of enthusiasm, I'm in!The concert stuff was great. The effects were amazing. Just not sure about the tie in with the story. It was OK, but it didn't grab me by the big ones and drag me in. It could've been so much more perhaps (but not sure what!!!)I'd suggest for the die-hard fans only....Oh, by the way, watch right through the credits!!!
