Two centuries after Snow White and Cinderella had their adventures, the Nine Kingdoms ready themselves for the coronation of Prince Wendel, Snow White's grandson, to the throne of the Fourth Kingdom. But an evil once-queen has freed herself from prison, and turns the prince into a golden retriever. Wendel, by means of a magic mirror, escapes into a hitherto-unknown Tenth Kingdom (modern day New York City) and meets Virginia and her father Tony. Pursued by trolls, cops, and a wolf in man's form, the three blunder back into the Nine Kingdoms and begin their adventures to restore Wendel to his human form and throne, and find the magic mirror that will take Tony and Virginia back home, all the while unknowing that Virginia already has a connection to the Nine Kingdoms that may prove deadly before we reach Happily Ever After.

The 10th kingdom is long... 7 hours long... Is it worth it though? Yes and No, the film is a re-telling of all the classics fairy tales and nursery rhymes but the twist is that they are all connected to each other in one way or another. Think Once upon a time without the headache inducing family tree they have going on and you'll get the picture. This one is hard to review because DVD which is the first 1/3 of the movie is really boring, whatever you think will happen will actually happen, there is no clever twist or interesting dialog. The visuals are lovely and very colourful but the effects haven't aged well. I almost stopped watching half way through the first DVD but my friend egged me on.To it's credit it does get better as you get to the second DVD, the characters of the fairy tales are more alive and our heroes become part of the story not just outsiders to it.There are better movies out there for this genre and considering the running time of this movie I would rate it as white bread. It's not the best thing on the shelf but it's not the worst either and if you want to spend a little quality time with loved ones on a rainy day then it's a good movie to pop in.

The 10th Kingdom is really an atrocious movie. I know that normally TV movies like this have lower standards and I was prepared for that. I was prepared for sub-par acting and bad special effects. But this movie is available. The acting by minor actors was unbelievable bad. But the surprising thing was actors like Dianne Wiest giving a really bad performance. I have seen a lot of movies in which she has a role, but she has never given a bad performance before.I don't know how that happens. How can good actors give such bad performances. Was the shooting rushed through? Were they not paid enough? Or did they instinctively knew that they can't save such a bad movie and decide to their worst. I sincerely don't know.I couldn't get through the whole thing. It is 7 hours long ! And frankly I was tired before the first hour was up. The story seemed very clichéd. Just a pale imitation of stuff that you had already watched elsewhere. I recommend that you avoid it at all costs.I really can't understand the good reviews. Do people have such low standards.

Every time I see this movie I like it even more than the last time. This is an exceptionally long movie at about 10 hours, but it was a mini series to begin with. Unfortunately I missed it in it's run, never even heard of it.I was snooping around the videos in a local store and came across this little gem. It's a great story supported by some excellent acting. The production values are just about the best I've even seen for any made-for-TV material. The entire idea of the movie, regarding what had happened to all the fairy tale people after a couple of hundred years, is captivating itself. However, the cast they put together fit the rolls perfectly. The trolls are particularly funny and well done. The huntsman actually gave me the chills.People who like fantasy and fairy tales will absolutely love this movie. If you go to all the last reviews here you will find the opinions of people who are not fantasy fans. You know, the ones with no imagination and who couldn't suspend their disbelief even if they were paid to do so. These people will never see a good fantasy for what it is, and will never get any enjoyment out of them. This leaves me to wonder, if they don't like these types of stories, why do they keep watching them? If you enjoy the genera then by all means pick this up if you see it. Just be ready for either a LLLOOONNNGGG bout of watching a LLLOOONNNGGG movie, or try and cut it up into manageable pieces. The toughest thing will be trying to stop it somewhere. Good luck with that decision.

Let me start with praise for the magnificent graphics, costumes and sets and the cute story and the Wolf that stole the movie, followed closely by Sally Peep. But when Tony says he'll stay behind at the end, who can blame him? His daughter, whom he raised alone, considers him a joke and argues with him every chance she gets, and is more affected by the death of her mother who tried to kill her three times. Not that Tony doesn't have his own problems. He is continually sarcastic and verbally abusive to Virginia (and everyone else within earshot). I count no less than four times that his daughter is crying inconsolably and he stands silently and watches her. Have either of these people heard of a HUG? No wonder Virginia skips from a brief kiss to the horizontal hokey-pokey with Wolf. No one has ever shown her any real affection. I think that's where this film fell down for me. Dad and daughter were only sparring partners. They might as well have been complete strangers. It might have played better.
