this is a GREAT film, IF you haven't read the book. this film has it all. romance, horror, comic relief and drama. the plot of the film is a lot different to the book i read ( by the way, there are 2 versions of the book, but i read the newest one where there are no edits). the film conforms to a lot of the book, but there are MAJOR differences that will leave your jaw ajar by the way the substitute people. but this review isn't about the book. the film is 5 1/2 hours long, but please believe me, it is well worth it. Lowe plays an AWESOME part as nick, and as usual, Gary sinese is A+++++. this film makes people think a lot, so if you like the thinking game, it is prob one of the top 10 psychological films, but there is enough drama in here to fulfil the most avid of soap fans! please, watch this film BEFORE you read the book., as the book will fulfil all those unanswered questions.

The first time I saw this was back in 94 when I was 12 years old. At the time I thought it was great. It wasn't until the 2000's before I saw it again and I have re-watched it from time to time. The first two hours holds up well for me. I always enjoy seeing the start of any plague movie or TV miniseries. It's interesting to see what unfolds in the story. By today's standards, The Stand might seem too timid or slow to build to anything. For me, I enjoy watching what happens around these characters and how they react. Seeing entire society crumble before you is pretty cool. Where the Stand starts to fall apart is when more focus is put on good vs evil. Good vs evil is really the main plot of the story. It really all goes down hill around the two hour mark. That's when the plague story ends. Not only that, the story starts to fall apart, characters begin to get annoying, the acting seems to get worse and worse, jumps in the story start to happen, continuity is poor and the excitement is over. It started out as a story that could have gone anywhere and then pigeon holes itself. Overall, I think it's worth a watch, but don't be surprised if your interest in the miniseries wanes.

It's a made for TV movie, not some Hollywood blockbuster with a massive budge that is plastered wall to wall with movie star A-Listers. That being said, there are a surprising number of top notch thespians.Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald lock things down with solid performances that represent "The Light" side. In a nutshell there is a massive die-off in the form of a deadly plague that basically remakes the entire Earth. The planet as we know it goes from 7.5 billion population to somewhere around 10,000 planet-wide! To further complicate world matters there appears to be a supernatural biblical force behind the entire event. There are now two sides to this event: the side of God and the side of the Devil turning this disaster into what appears to be an apocalyptic event. The evil is concentrating around Las Vegas 'Sin City" so aptly named. A biker looking rebel with a legendary mullet by the name of Randall Flag is leading the darkness. The good are behind a devout old woman of 106 name Abigail Freeman who is gathering the light to her via dream messages. This series can drag on in some parts, but it's a fantastic showdown that can't be missed! Be sure to watch this one!

I like the story, read both the original and the extended version.I like a lot about it. For a book-to-TV thing, it's been done with respect. It's a bit like The Shining mini series. It follows the plot and works pretty well. However, I don't understand the cast. I like 2 people in that cast, and none of them are main characters. I've always been a fan of Shawnee Smith. She does an excellent job as the mean spirited nymphomaniac. Like in the Saw series, she has a penchant for playing unstable persons. I'm also a fan of her looks. The other character I like, is Ed Harris as the general. When it comes to the other roles, their looks, voices and so on, does just not work for me. Granted, I read both books first, so naturally, I created my own images. But all in all, worth a watch, and if you have read the book(s), have a look, it's OK.
