Gunless is an excellent Canadian film about the Montana Kid, the fastest gunslinger in the West.....I mean north....I mean Canada? Gunless is a fantastic movie about a man called the Montana Kid who goes north to escape dangers, but by no means was he running. This is a pretty good Western with a bit of love thrown in. I am a macho guy type, and found this movie fantastic. The main male and female leads worked well and throughout the movie, you want everything to work out and for them to be together. But did they? Did he live or lie? I has a very good script and just fun all around movie. I am fully in support of this excellent movie and it is something you can watch with your wife or girlfriend and kids.Excellent movie, TEN OUT OF 10!

Gunless (2010): Dir: William Phillips / Cast: Paul Gross, Sienna Guillory, Dustin Milligan, Tyler Mane, Callum Keith Rennie: Hilarious Canadian western comedy about forgiveness. It stars Paul Gross as the Montana Kid who ends up in a small Canadian town after narrowly avoiding death in the United States. He is overwhelmed at the lifestyle and behaviour in opposite to his quick drawing pistol brandishing methods of solving problems. Directed by William Phillips exposing western clichés but not without many very funny moments. Gross is excellent as a man out of his element and on the run in hopes that time would be on his side. We know that his past will catch up with him and that he will have to face his enemies. He will also have to realize that pulling the trigger isn't always the best way to solve problems. Sienna Guillory plays a woman whose windmill needs fixing and Gross reluctantly assists. This is an opposites attract relationship that works on sheer humour due to his simplicity and her methods of exploiting his nature. Dustin Milligan brings humour to a standard but amusing role of Corporal Kent. He will become the bunt of sight jokes due to his pride and authority. Tyler Mane plays Jack who is challenged to a gun fight. He is innocent and is the target of Gross's arrogant nature but his way of solving this conflict is one of the film's best laughs. Callum Keith Rennie plays a bounty hunter but the role is not that interesting. While it is not quite True Grit, it certainly can play a double billing alongside it. Its humour is in tact but its message of forgiveness pulls the trigger. Score: 8 / 10

With a very unusual title, and a very quirky story, I found this delightful movie on Netflix, via streaming video. The actors create unique, funny characters that are also interesting. The year is 1878. Paul Gross is the Montana Kid, and he shows up in this small Canadian village of population 17, tied up and sitting backwards in the saddle, on his horse. Clearly he has been in some sort of disagreement, and he doesn't even know where he is.We see very quickly that he is a gunman with a quick temper, and soon is threatening to add number 12 to his list of killings. But this town has gentle people and, except for the one that Montana has, not a handgun anywhere. This makes things difficult to challenge the local blacksmith to a gunfight after Montana is insulted.I have a special liking for Sienna Guillory and here she is Jane Taylor who needs help repairing her windmill so that her water pump will work. She bargains with Montana, she will provide the handgun if he will repair her windmill. It is refreshing that no one actually gets shot and killed in this movie. Montana and Jane take a liking to each other, and with the help of the Canadian mounties they actually run the bounty hunters out of the country.Nothing special or lasting here, just light entertainment. Paul Gross is very good in his role as the Montana Kid.

With the dearth of any, let alone decent westerns nowadays, this movie was a breath of fresh air. In the vein of the classic Briscoe County, it was a treat to watch. Acting was as well done if not better than the junk Hollywood offers. (Yes, Lower Case!) Obviously I enjoy westerns, and most of the recent movies guised as westerns have not made the grade. I will certainly watch this one again as well as recommend it. Oops, I see I need to write more... I guess simple and succinct doesn't rate. So, sorry, here are a few more lines. Nice to see it was based in Canada - clean skies and a lot of green... duh, am I done yet??? Let's see.Thank you.
