How come that average rating of this movie is 6? Ok, it is not the best movei ever, but in comparison to last 10 years production this is a marvel. No special effects, no crime, no violence. Just a movie. Just a movie. With a story, with passion, with actors that can live basics (emotions). But obviously this is far too much for contemporaty taste.

No matter how engaging one person is, no matter how charming, no matter the looks or the spoken words, there is always something that can be defined as flaw. And while Clive Owen is more than charming and might come across as easy going (especially considering Binoche characters behavior), there are many flaws with his character too. But can those two find a way to bridge the gap between them? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.The chemistry between the lead actors is there and you can feel why there would be an attraction, even more so after the first encounter which does not seem to be going that well. But while the main focus is on the romance, there is also the "war" between words and pictures. And since you're not able (yet) to put a graphic review of a movie down (on IMDb at least), the question is: On who's side are you on? And will you switch sides during the course of the movie? Very intelligent and nicely written, witty dialog, good turns and changes and generally entertaining, while not losing its focus throughout

This is a great film. It takes the age old argument of what is more powerful Pictures or Words and gives it a fresh take. Wonderful portrayal of the characters by Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche. Words and Pictures was a much needed break from the garbage Hollywood has been putting out in recent years. It is an uplifting film that explores the pain life can dish out while also showing the recovery we are all capable of. The story revolves around two prep high school teachers who are trying to motivate their students as well as themselves. The interchanges between Owen and Binoche are fantastic. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

(spoilers) I'm rating "Words and Pictures" somewhere close to a 7/10. It was enjoyable and fairly well written. Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche where a bit of an odd pair, but their romance was pretty cute and worked. There was some darker scenes with Owen's character battling alcoholism that seemed a bit hurried and too much sometimes as though it didn't fit the other tone in several scenes. Perhaps this could've been kept as a smaller problem, or done away with. The movie is certainly not original but has some fun moments of romance. Classroom teaching scenes were bearable, although many of the "students" were obviously old for the parts, and the themes have been done before many times. Recommended though.
