This movie is about a child who is autistic but has a unique interest in maths. The ending of this movie takes a drastic change that we would have never thought of. I can say that Asa Butterfield did a great job acting as an autistic child but I don't think I can say the same for Rafe Spalls who is his teacher. The story also needed a bit more polishing I think. In all the movie is good and is definitely watchable.

I wasn't expecting the movie to be so good. I am an engineer and I felt its family drama story of a child prodigy of some sort. However, it greater than that, its about the bonds we share, how we interpret people who are different to us and how they interpret us. We are lost between our checklist with which we gauge everyone around as decide whether they are relevant to us or not! But then there comes days when we come out of shell and see the larger picture and understand things which never made sense.yes, I haven't said a thing about movie or its character, I wish to keep it hidden and let you experience it yourself.A must watch is my final verdict.

This film tells the story of a autistic young man who is particularly gifted in mathematics. He survives the trauma of losing his father in a car accident, but he's unable to navigate the puzzling maze of human interaction. The story is very engaging in the first half, when he is portrayed to have autistic symptoms. Sally Hawkins struggles to be loving and accepting, and she's very convincing as a mother who is struggling with the challenges of living with an autistic person. She is looking dangerously thin as well, making her character particularly convincing. I'm also transfixed by the other autistic boy, Luke. The moment he is on the screen, we can already tell he's autistic because of his lack of eye contact, and engaging in a one sided conversation even when he's in a group of people. He's at the higher end of the spectrum, making him a very interesting character. When he expresses his emotions in the toilet, the scene is simply heart wrenching. The only problem I have with this film is that it adds a romantic subplot into it. It makes the whole autistic portrayal unconvincing. When the girl touches him, he should be ultra sensitive and resist being touched. Instead we are shown another reaction.

X + Y or A Brilliant Young Man is a really good movie. I thought this movie was going to be an average 6 because I usually don't like this genre, but I have to admit I was wrong. I gave it an 8 because it mixes lots of good stuff. Firstly, I loved the cast. I think that Asa Butterfield suits perfectly for the role of Nathan. Sally Hawkins is great too. In regard to the characters, I have to say that they are so powerful and real that they make you think about lots of aspects of life. For example, I think that Zhang Mei is one of the best characters in the whole movie. She gives something to the movie that I can't explain.Secondly, I think the story is inspiring and provocative. I don't want to say much about it… I'm just going to say that it's a bit slow and it lacks a fixed plot but it's just like life itself. So, if you want to watch something moving and touching and all that kind of stuff, watch it. If you want to watch something fun, watch it too. And if you want to watch just a movie and have a nice time, watch X + Y. I promise you this movie is worth watching.
