Violet & Daisy (2013)

Imagine if you will a universe where Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are paid hitmen working for Danny Trejo in another cameo role. Violet (Alexis Bledel) and Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) are downright enjoyable in this quirky dark comedy. This is a genius indie designed to give you a Merrillee Rush. Violet and Daisy come across an easy hit (James Gandolfini) which causes them to examine their lives...one where they met as doll surgeons and life is about a Barbara Sunday designer dress.Some lines from the film:About the number one killer: "He once killed 3 ninjas with a fingernail file." Violet theology: "Heaven is a place...where everything is free or at least wholesale." This is a really difficult movie to review, since it doesn't neatly fit into any category. I like odd movies, and this one certainly qualifies. It starts out seeming to be a black comedy about teenage girl hired killers, but as it develops it eventually morphs into a poignant story. Everything about this movie is quite unrealistic, yet I personally didn't find it very hard to suspend disbelief and just go with it (although, admittedly, I was very tired and particularly susceptible when I watched it). The two lead characters developed depth as they confronted the problem of killing someone that they really don't want to kill. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say that this movie is strange and unusual, well-filmed and well-scripted, and, at least to me when I happened to watch it, also quite moving. My advice is that if this weird mix sounds like it might be interesting, the runtime is really short, so go ahead and give it a try, since the commitment isn't great.

This is a delightful black comedy with some action about 2 sweet young female assassins for hire. Saoirse Ronan looks really sweet and lovely here. Alexis Bledel convincingly plays a young woman even though she much older than Ms Ronan. James Gandolfini in one of his last roles is quite touching and endearing as their target.There are some laugh out loud originally funny moments and dialog in the vein of Luc Besson and Quentin Tarantino but still unique in it's own way.There are some slower moments but on the whole you care for the characters so it keeps you interested till the end.

this movie has almost it all. it includes friendship, money problem AND killing.. it's not a lame romantic movie, it makes you think and it is beautiful done! you should give it a try. I mean it's about two teenage girls who are not sure what to do with life and they are just trying to get enough money so they can buy some dresses, but when they think that all they have to do is kill someone they're wrong because it's so much more than that... they're about to learn such a big part in life and accepting how things are, try to make the most of the situation. this might not be a movie you'll re-watch but it's really enjoyable and very beautiful done. it's a movie which will leave you not empty, but not full it will leave you thinking.
