the basic virtue - its freshness. it is a film made with passion and special for the right option for the lead roles. it is a homage. and a realistic portrait of a legendary woman. it is the simple and honest story behind the titles of newspapers. and this did it a great film. Hillary Swank shines as Amelia. and she gives not exactly a beautiful performance but the inspired way for discover her character out of the status of impressive statue. the ambition, the sacrifices, the need to be herself. this is all. and more. because "Amelia" is little more than a biopic. it is the perfect answer to the expectations about yourself who grows up from the early years for each from us.

Ultimately this is a very dull movie even with everything going for it. Beautiful cinematography, a brilliant performance from Hilary Swank who embodies Earhart (looks, voice, mannerisms) a nice blend of action and romance with some fine male leads in Richard Gere & Ewan McGregor. This should have been a great movie but was instead boring, pretentious even, with wasted potential of an interesting and intriguing historical figure and some great actors. I read a couple of reviews that described Amelia as "Oscar bait" and a "prestige picture" hoping for critical acclaim. That seems to hit the nail on he head.Amelia is a biopic, taking a look at the life of legendary American pilot Amelia Earhart, who disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean in 1937 in an attempt to make a flight around the world. 9/7/13

I have been a huge Amelia Earhart fan my whole life and I've waited to see this movie until I read a few books about her. After learning so much about the real woman I honestly could not stand to watch this film. My biggest pet peeve was the idea that G.P. GAVE her the Electra for her around the world flight, are you kidding me? She was approached by Purdue University to help lecture women about the importance of careers and it was AMELIA who worked out a deal with the university to fund the around the world flight. They basically just robbed her of an accomplishment to make George Putnam look good. Amelia always put work first and she was an advocate for advancing women's freedom and choices. She was also a social worker before becoming famous and it was one of the most important things t her. As for this huge love affair with George Putnam, they loved each other sure, but they also married because it was logical and she had no problems saying she wanted to put work first. I was appalled that the film could gloss over ALL of her accomplishments in favor of creating some fictitious soap opera romance. George was married when he met Amelia, no mention of that. There were so many historical inaccuracies that I could have overlooked if they had served a purpose. As for Hillary Swank she was the worst part of the film. She attempted a sweet, charming, quirky attitude and instead she came across sounding like an idiot. I really thought she was slow in some scenes. She was not nearly feminine enough to play Amelia and she lacked the paradoxical humble, yet confident quality that Amelia possessed. I kept noticing also that in some scenes she had the gap in her teeth and in others she did not. This movie was a huge disappointment.

she was swallowed by the sky or by the sealike me she had a dream to flyoh Amelia!it was just a false alarm (Joni Mitchell)Hilary Swank was ideally cast as the daring pilot for she is par excellence the actress of the "adventures " movie which may take place in France (the countess De La Motte in a very so-so costume drama or in her native country ("Billion dollars baby"in which she is unforgettable)Amelia's feats as a pilot are well depicted ,although the two male leads are wasted (in Ewan McGregor 's case it's disastrous). And there is another side of her life which is passed over in silence:she was a feminist activist and she fought for the women's rights ;if the screenplay devoted one or two scenes to her commitment,I have missed them.Richard Gere ,in spite of a thankless part, proves he can age gracefully.dreams Amelia, dreams and falsealarms ....(JM)
