Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin (1997)

When I was younger this was always my favourite Pooh movie. I watched it again recently and loved it. Its very funny, particularly Pooh, altough Owl is still my favourite character. Most of the story came back to me even tough I havent seen it in over ten years. However, the songs in this film arent as catchy as other films. Still great fun tough. 8/10

I generally like animated films, but I found this one to be more like a feature-length cartoon with little to interest an adult audience. The several scenes of Tigger and Piglet falling from high places reminded me of a Road Runner cartoon, and Pooh's singing and simple missives on life--although true to the Winnie-the-Pooh franchise--seemed excessively sappy. Most of Disney's newer animated features have inside jokes, clever dialogue, and memorable songs that will help keep adults entertained while they watch with their kids. Pooh's Grand Adventure is lacking any of that. This straight-to-video movie will probably hold the attention of small children for an hour, but I would recommend parents find something else to do while their kids watch.

I watched this one after a handful of looks over the years of "The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh." I guess I expected the same sort of movie, but I didn't get it. This wasn't in the latter's class and category. The charm of that earlier movie was its laid-back stories and mood.This movie is more like today's fare where there is action taking place most of the time. Perhaps it's the shorter attention spans most of us - especially youth - have today. They need something loud and exciting happening almost every minute. That's what this movie was in a lot of spots: loud and harsh. I don't mean to knock it; the film is okay. I just prefer the easy-going collection of stories. I think it fits "Pooh" better.

I found this movie to be really charming. The plot is that one day Christopher Robin goes missing, and a note is left. Owl translates his note to say that he is in the Skull, and Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit and Eeyore all go on an adventure to find him. Most notable about this movie are its songs. The songs in here are worthy of classic Disney musicals. The characters really do have a lot of development over the course of the movie, especially Piglet overcoming his fears. The only problem with this is the animation, which isn't bad, it just isn't great. I highly recommend this charming adventure, and personally think it's only second best to the original 1977 Pooh film.My rating: ****1/2 out of *****. 71 mins. Rated G.
