With the aid of his girlfriend, Phyllis Potter, and best friend, Loomis, Grimm enters a Manhattan bank dressed as a clown, creates a hostage situation and executes a flawless robbery. The only thing left for the trio to do is make their getaway out of the city and to the airport. It sounds simple enough, but it seems that fate deserts them immediately after the bank heist. One mishap after another conspires to keep these robbers from reaching freedom.

I watched this on TV some 25 years ago and remembered as good satire. Spotted this days and made good decision: let's watch it, if nothing else, to refresh memories. It was worth of every minute - no there were no slow, dragging parts, as some reviewers said here. Pace and timing are perfect. From beginning was obvious that this will caricaturing big City life situations, style. Exiting from metro was hilarious, as many other scenes. Is it one of the reasons for low rating here ? You will not see some recent comedy like this. I could call it 'Modest masterpiece' - nothing bombastic, plain storytelling, no forced jokes, really - and that self is great thing. If just movies like Postman or Heaven's Gate were made with same approach - doesn't matter is it comedy or whatever. And as I see, this is made by book, and is remake. But nobody of reviewers did read book, is seems. Too bad that good things are so often less known. This movie really deserves more publicity.

This may be a controversial statement but this is probably Bill Murray's best film and the one where he is certainly the most likable, because he never has really come across as a person who the audience sympathises with.Murray plays Grimm, dressed as a clown, robs a bank in Manhattan. He ingeniously sets up a hostage situation and then slips away with the loot and his accomplices, his cool girlfriend Phyllis is played by Geena Davis and his best friend, the buffoonish Loomis is played by Randy Quaid. The robbery itself is straightforward, it is the getaway that turns into a nightmare. They want to get to the airport to catch a flight out but it is complicated by the fact that fate, luck and all of New York City appears to be conspiring against their escape.Quick change is a mish mash of hostage drama/comedy and the more dark as well as slapstick getaway. Jason Robards plays the very veteran detective on their tale. The leads acquit themselves well and Murray who also co-directed really sells the film. Under-appreciated by its audience this really is a comedy classic.

This one is absolutely chocked full of accomplished writing, unforgettably comic performances, unexpectedly clever situations, and hilarious slapstick comedy. It only slows when the script turns to unnecessary melodrama. Otherwise it's combination of witty dialog, drool understated delivery by Murray and fast pacing keep this a fascinating wild farce that surprises in almost every scene. Check out Philip Bosco as the anal retentive bus driver, Tony Shalhoub as the whacked out cab driver who because he cant speak a word of English must communicate in wild pantomime. There are so many fine comic performances that I tend to lose track of them.Too bad it did not do better at the box office. Maybe it was ahead of it's time. Were it released today it might have had a better chance..Don't debate, rent it on DVD and watch it over and over!

I enjoy this movie, a film about a trio of bank robbers that plan the perfect heist and everything goes right up until they escape the bank when just about everything goes wrong. Good comedy and I usually do not like those that break the law, but I could not help but pull for Grimm and his gang to make it. Grimm is played by the always funny Bill Murray. His gang consists of Phyllis played by Gena Davis and Loomis done by Randy Quaid who is kind of hit and miss in movies, but here he is a hit. The story has a clown entering a bank and proceeding to rob it. A stand off ensues where certain people are literally sent from the bank because the others want them to get out. One is really nervous and puking, another begins swearing and threatening the clown criminal. However, you will find out that all is not as it appears. Everything is going fine for the gang, until they do make it out and then with a honk of a horn, everything begins to unravel quickly. Our group has to make it to the airport with the cops tracking them down. Jason Robards plays the cop trying to find them. Things seem to look dire for the gang of thieves, as things keep going against them. The comedy is good, the best stuff though is in the initial scenes in the stand off. It is funny watching people's reactions and I enjoyed it when the one guy was trying to buy his way out of the situation with his watch. Funny stuff and the movie goes by quickly.
