There is plenty of terrible film that found cult followings. "The Room" and "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" are just 2. This film however is so bland and stupid that this 1984 film comes across like a British made 1960's film. However this film stumbles so bad that it's almost embarrassing to admit that I enjoy watching it. In this film "Supergirl" has to come to earth. In error the "Omegahedron" gets sent to earth. This powers "Supergirls" city. It gets released in error and lands on Earth and recovered by a Modern Day witch named Selena. The witch is played by Faye Dunaway. 3 years after "Mommie Dearest" Faye Dunaway was happy to land this huge role. However she is so over the top that she should remove this film from her resume and not "Mommie Dearest". Brenda Vaccaro plays her sidekick.Helen Slater plays "Supergirl" and she is fine but the film itself lets her down. She is pretty and plays both "Supergirl" and her alter ego Linda Lee with ease. Watch this for what this is and not what you expect. This is not "Superman". However Richard Donner created a film that was a hard act to follow. Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz been involved with this film we would had a much better film. The special effect in this are not very good. The plot is stupid and the pacing is terrible not matter what version you watch! There is several. There is the USA THEATRICAL VERSION. THE INTERNATIONAL VERSION. THE DIRECTOR CUT. There is also several television edition. All versions has footage that is not seen on other editions. Maybe one day Warner Brothers will released a home video version that has all the deleted scenes included as a bonus feature.

SupergirlThe unique thing about female superheroes is that they turn into super-villains every 30-days.Luckily, Kryptonian woman, like the one featured in this action-adventure, don't have periods.Tracking the Omegahedron, an all-powerful energy source, from Superman's home world to his adopted planet, Kara not only assumes his Earth lineage but also Clark's alter ego.Enrolled at an all-girls school where she falls for the caretaker Ethan (Hart Bochner), Supergirl must battle the witch Selena (Faye Dunaway) for Ethan's heart. Unfortunately, Selena is in possession of the Omegahedron and a shadow demon that she'll use to conquer humanity.Existing in the same world as Christopher Reeve's Superman, this 1984 adaptation of the DC Comics character was an early prototype of the shared superhero universe. Unfortunately, Superman fatigue had set in by the time this underrated romp was released. Moreover, it's nice that Superman finally has a sexual partner he won't annihilate.Yellow Lightvidiotreviews.blogspot.ca

4.3 on IMDb almost turned me away from this movie, but now, when I did see it, I'm completely confused by rating so bad. OK, story is full of holes and illogicalities. If I was taking notes during the movie I could write a novel made of all nonsense I noticed. I mean, Kara brings her world to the edge of destruction and goes to Earth to try to make things right, but when she arrives, instead of trying to recover energy source in panic, she enjoys nature and her newfound abilities, flying around like butterfly and acting like child. The witch who gains possession of power source instantly knows what it is and how to use it. She knows about Phantom Zone and how to send Supergirl in it... But to cut long story short, cause there's a bunch of similar crap, this kind of plot holes and nonsense is typical for this kind of movies. If we ignore that flaw, this movie is really beautiful and entertaining, and most of all, it's really well done. It is much better than Superman 2 & 3, and as I hear, infinitely better than Superman 4. Technically speaking, it is better even than original Superman movie, but being 16 years younger that comparison would not be fair, because of accumulated experience in making superhero movies and technology advances. Personally, I do not like Helen Slater too much, but for 19 years old girl in her first serious role she did great job playing Supergirl. Interesting fact is that 30 years later she appears in Supergirl TV series in role of Supergirl's adopted mother. Faye Dunaway nailed role of evil sorceress, which is expected as that kind of role fits her the best. Special effects are fantastic for its time and pretty much believable even for today's viewer. And what is most important, this is definitely the most fun DC movie up to date. I enjoyed all 138 minutes of director's cut and I would love to have it in my collection.8,5/10

This happened to be the first superhero movie to star a female. It helped paved the way for more of these movies, none of which are any good. Don't hold your breath for the new "Wonder Woman" movie. This movie features Supergirl, Superman's cousin, coming to Earth in search of a magic orb thing that was lost on her space station, which I don't get. She somehow has her costume appear out of nowhere and gains the ability to change her clothes and appearance. A third of this movie is spent with her going to college and literally none of it amounts to anything at all. There's this villain who finds the magic orb and somehow knows how to use it. She uses a love potion on this one guy who falls in love with Supergirl. The special effects are really bad in this and the story is so shallow as a lot of it is devoted to these two women fighting over this one guy. Yeah, not a good way to start a genre. If anything, I'll give this movie credit for at least trying to be a spin off. It alludes to the Superman movies well, but even that seems forced at times. It wouldn't be until "Creed" and "Rogue One" that we'd get good spin off movies. This is just pointless. *1/2
