In a number of aspects, "Forever Mine" is a really strange movie. On one hand it seems to be a modern update of the noir genre, dealing with forbidden romance and other related topics. But a great deal of the movie also seems to be inspired by the Alexander Dumas novel "The Count of Monte Cristo"! As you can probably imagine, the two parts don't really fit well together. Yet at the same time, the mix makes the movie so strange that more likely than not you'll keep watching to see how it gets wrapped up. I certainly was curious enough. That is not to say that the movie is missing genuine merit. It's well photographed, has some good performances, and it has a lush musical score. However, the movie doesn't work in the end. The limited budget hurts the movie at times, and the so-called "hero" isn't very sympathetic. But what really dooms the movie is that the story is too long, too slow, and lacking in explanation on a few key details. Yet while the movie doesn't work in the end, the movie remains weirdly watchable - that is, if you share this user commenter's taste for strange cinema.

What can I say about this movie, when I see one of my favorite movies underrated? Are IMDb users not fond of romantic movies, or they do not review high of that kind of movies. This story might be simple, but emotional movies only need to provoke emotions. This movie definitely stirs romantic emotions. The acting was so good, actors were so emotional, actress was so romantic and beautiful, the duologue was such that you want to memorize. What do you expect after these from a romantic movie? Viewers searching for a pure romantic film, never miss it. Do not be mislead after seeing such a tiny IMDb score. The favorite duologue of this film is' You will never be loved the way I love you.'

Even not being a great movie, Forever mine is a average romantic movie based on The Count of Montecristo plot. The boy than come from the past to recover the woman she owned and to revenge from the man who separated him from her.As i said, is not a very good movie, cause it's a bit discontinuous, i mean, there aren't almost none between the beginning and the end of the story, and in the story passed more than ten years.Anyways, if you like real romantic movies, not romantic comedies like is usual in Hollywood now, then you probably will like this.It worth the view.

...from an otherwise top-notch writer/director who must have been on one serious bender or another to create something so remarkably mundane, despite some nice work from Gretchen "The Notorious Bettie Page" Mol as Ella, the romantic focus of this half-baked bodice-ripper, and Ray "Goodfellas" Liotta, as the stereotypical shady, possessive, violent husband. Unfortunately, it also features Joseph "Shakespeare in Love" Fiennes taking a paycheck with his eyebrows as the passionate Miami cabana boy who's fallen for Ella and swears undying, smoldering devotion. Everything goes downhill from there, including some of the worst aging and make-up effects I've seen in a feature film in some time. Small wonder it never made it into theaters; I'm sure test audiences roasted it! Of interest only to fans of Mol, who demonstrates the ease with nudity that landed her the titular role in Mary Harmon's classy-but-sassy bio-pic, "The Notorious Bettie Page," or maybe dedicated Liotta followers or Fiennes groupies who can't get enough of their boy. Cinemaphiles will otherwise find nothing of interest to retain in their memory banks. A watch-once DVD, unless maybe you want to hear Schrader's commentary, which so far I haven't and very likely never will. Earns its 5/10 from me strictly on Ms. Mol's charms and precious little else.
