Jackie is a comic icon, attempting to reinvent himself despite his audience only wanting to know him as a television character he played earlier in his career. After accosting an audience member, Jackie is sentenced to community service where he meets Harmony Schiltz. The Comedian is far from being De Niro's best worst but it's also far from being his worst. The supporting cast was great DeVito, Keitel and even a small cameo from Billy Crystal. This movie had charisma, it was pretty fun and both De Niro and Mann had a very good chemistry together. (7/10)

My first review ever, and it's free form. I can't say enough good things about this movie. It's real, the characters are fleshed out so well, the writing is clever, the acting right on the nose. De Niro is a real "go- getter" as Jackie, potential has been trying to make his way in a changing world. Brutally frank in his humor and unwilling to compromise his take on situations that loom up, it's a fine portrayal and one accompanied by a fine supporting cast. I know he spent years trying to get it made and I hope he doesn't feel disappointed over the box office. It's a real triumph in my eyes, I thoroughly enjoyed it, a film with much substance and humanity. By some of the other reviews I can see not everyone feels the same and it was this that, after all these years of reading reviews on the IMDb finally prompted me to write one of my own. Kudos! I loved it. Thank you for the joy it brought to me.

DeNiro is my one of my all-time favorite actors. I love his movies...this one I didn't. I thought it was over the top. The foul language, which I have definitely experienced in stand up comedy (and actually love) seemed forced. It didn't feel at all like DeNiro was enjoying this role and every scene he was in, felt like it. In fact the last couple of movies he's been in have felt like it. I don't know if he is continuing to take roles simply for the paycheck, but I wish he would be more choosy in his role picks!

Here's The Lowedown in "The Comedian" (R - 2016 - US)...She lost me when she said, "We like to think"!!Genre: Drama/FunnyMy Score: 6.6Cast=10 Acting=7 Plot=6 Ending=6 Story=7 Drama=7 Script=8 Filming=5 Funny=4 Ad-Lib=6Jackie is a comic icon, attempting to reinvent himself despite his audience only wanting to know him as a television character he played earlier in his career. "Once you can make a woman laugh then you can make her do anything, they say. I don't know if that's true." I expected more from such an amazing cast, but there was a solid script and story here. The movie is classified as a comedy, but it plays better as a drama with it's serious path. The only time I burst out laughing was at the end. It's worth a watch if you are interested in the story...I'll take you out for an ass cream later.
