There are so many comedy/horror films like this out there, but very few are able to find the right balance of humour, gore and scares. 'Severance' is one of those few that gets it spot on. Laughs are plenty, there is enough gore to satisfy any horror fan, and it isn't short of things to make you jump either. Okay, it's been done before a million times over. The plot is predictable and lacks originality. That's not the point. This is a highly entertaining film, and that's all it seeks to be.'Severance' is nothing groundbreaking and nothing we haven't already seen before, but it's still a great piece of entertainment.
i enjoyed this film, I've seen it three times, i'm a big Danny Dyer fan, so i had an idea what it would be like. It starts like all good horror films, with seemingly innocent characters going off on a trip. Its quite slow at first, which lets you get sued to the characters, then slowly and frighteningly bad things happen, which gets faster and faster etc.. like all horror films, there a few twists. spoiler alert the maniacs are quite good, the effects believable, and painful looking , bits of humor, and quite believable how the characters turn on each other when in distress. if you like budget horror films and Danny Dyer, then you'll like this. Tim Mcinerry ( capt darling)of black adder fame is in it as well.
The genre of self-referential tongue-in-cheek slashers has worn out its welcome a long time ago, but luckily "Severance" often takes breaks from being so damn clever and brings some actual thrills. The first half hour is pretty boring and filled with lame attempts at comedy, but afterwards it actually gets pretty exciting. The tension is gradually built up, and around halfway you're just totally sucked into this movie. This is mainly due to the characters, who are all pretty likable (to the standards of the genre, at least). You actually give a damn who lives and who dies, which is very rare is a slasher. The story also takes a lot of unexpected twists and turns, it's a pretty cleverly written movie. "Severance" is by no means great cinema, but it does seem to achieve whatever it wanted to achieve. Fun watch.
