This movie is far better than the rating it has on this site, although I think I know why. As far as light entertainment goes, its silly and fun. Owen and Freeman are both great, Sarah Foster is gorgeous and Charlie Sheen puts in a good turn as an inept part time thief. Its fun right up until, the non existent ending. The movie just ends suddenly not really explaining anything or tying up any loose ends. The dialog and music builds up to imply a twist ending, but it comes to nothing as the film abruptly ends. Maybe they ran out of money? The movie is set in and was shot in Hawaii so maybe the crew thought they'd prematurely hit some wrap party hash pipe and go sleep it off down at the beach. The movie is pretty good up until then though.

Jack Ryan (Owen Wilson) is a charming petty criminal starting anew in Hawaii. He gets fired from Ray Ritchie (Gary Sinise)'s construction site after nailing supervisor Lou Harris (Vinnie Jones) with a bat. The construction is being protested by Hawaiian locals. Ritchie's flunky Bob Rogers Jr. (Charlie Sheen) warns him not to go back. District Judge Walter Crewes (Morgan Freeman) is not a fan of Ritchie. Frank Pizzarro (Gregory Sporleder) is his low life friend desperate for money. Richie's trophy girlfriend Nancy Hayes (Sara Foster) finds him fascinating and wants him in a scheme to steal $200k from Ritchie. This movie tries so very hard to be light and breezy. It's taking the Hawaiian surf and sands too seriously. Owen Wilson is using all his boyish charm. Sara Foster is an amateur actor. She's not much more than a body that talks. Together the material becomes as light as a feature. There is no depth here. There is no tension. The danger doesn't feel dangerous. It's all sunshine and bikinis. The story and schemes meander in its leisurely time. The tone is so light that it is actually quite boring.

When I saw this movie I hadn't heard much about it, and if I had heard something, I might not have seen it. That wouldn't have been such a bad thing! There are some good actors in this movie (Freeman and Sinise), unfortunately we don't see them much. Then there are a couple of semi-good actors (Sara Foster, Charlie Sheen) and we see much too much of them. Then there are a couple of "underdogs", actors that we don't expect a lot from, and we don't see them much either (willie Nelson, Vinnie Jones) and that's a shame because they actually deliver some of the movies funniest and/or most credible performances. What about Owen Wilson you ask? Well, he's Owen Wilson, just the way he is Owen Wilson in a lot of other not so good movies that have only reached large audiences because of his name (Drilbit Taylor; You, Me and Dupree; Marley and Me). No, don't get me wrong, he's not bad, he's almost never bad, but he's just not that good either. And then what about the plot? To be perfectly honest I think that there might just have been enough plot for about 45 minutes, tops, and that might actually have improved the movie, which is unbearably slow paced at times and not at all the LOL-comedy it tries to be!So no, when you ask me so directly I have to say that I would not recommend it unless you want a perfectly harmless movie with so little plot that you can make out with a boy- or girlfriend half the time and not miss much...

The worst dialog in the history of screenplays!!! Mr. Bing would have been better of putting his money in ENRON stock!!! How can Hollywood expect us to "GO to the Movies" when they come out with this junk!!! Morgan Freeman had a nice shirt and that's all I can say positive about "THE BIG FLOP". Geo. Armitage should offer a Refund w/ his next Blockbuster!! This " Thing " made a ROGER CORMAN Film look like a "BEST PICTURE" lock on Oscar!!! Enough said!!! I don't think so!!! Remember" Vigalante Force "," Privite Duty Nurses ", etc. Where do Directors get the $$$$$$$$$$$ to make this junk???????????? Perhaps there's too much HOLLYWEED in Hollywood!!!!!!!!!!!
