Black Devil Doll (2007)

I finally watched this film and watched it and heres the truth. The movie is a great idea, the script almost had it,the acting was so so bad that I heard they were supposed to act that way...what bad. If they were trying to capture the 70's cult horror movie theme, well back then they got people who were actors, trying to be actors and thats why those films worked! If it was a tribute to those films that is a cool thing to do, but make it your OWN film and not try to capture what worked then will not work now! Getting girls to act bad which I don't think they did cause you can tell they were NOT acting bad, they are just bad! As one reviewer put it to star in this movie just have big you know and willing to have you know what with a puppet acting not necessary! You should have spent money on actors. The movie is just over an hour, but it seem to take forever to end, less would have been better, or have a better plot.Well you did go for laughs to many I think, but you stayed away from the horror/gore and stayed with naked chicks! Teen girls?They all looked like they were in the late 30's to 40's and only the star looked young like early 20's!! White T was he suppose to be young too, he look 40 as well! The film looked as if different camera was used at times, bad angles, and the puppet walked like it had a stick up it's butt they should have learned something from the Chucky movies! The DVD extras were a major let down! There was nothing extra about them! I was so looking forward to 3 NEW Mubia cartoons and one was an Obma cartoon lame! Then the other two were on the beginning on the movie so why have them as extras? Behind the scene photo's there wasn't many seems there was more on the website then on the DVD and not even really cool shots! The Cast commentary was so awful, one or two funny things but it was bad everyone talking over each other no one really talking about the movie so lame to listen to. Mubia's commentary was cool, but after awhile it like enough is enough already. If anything I'd skip the commentaries just not worth it! Chicken Shawn at the end just so bad! I don't know if that was supposed to be in the movie and it was decided to save it for the end credits, or the Chicken Shawn just wanted to be in his movie so they made it and tacked it on at the end. It might have worked better as a surprise extra, in the movie or credits was just bad! The SPFX were alright the DVD menu was beyond amazing!!!! I think all they saw was a chance to make a great movie but the lost their way when getting started on it and they thought get a puppet to you know naked chicks and people would just line up to see and buy it and make big money, sorry with free porn etc on the internet you can see stuff like that all the time for FREE. I give you full kudos for making a film most wont get of their ass to do something like that, so good for them. Just rent this movie first or check more sites for reviews such as Amazon...a very very bad movie it all HYPE!

This was another film I was on the fence about. It grabbed the midnight slot at the Fangoria Festival which was appropriate. There's nothing mainstream about this movie, even though the plot was stolen from the Chucky series.The "twist" is that it's a black radical, serial killer who gets reincarnated as a dummy. The puppet struts around talking ridiculous jive lingo. He assaults and tortures a lot of naked white actresses. There's even an Ouija board explanation thrown in for good measure.It's obviously intended to be outrageous and offensive. No one mistook this for a serious horror flick. BDD was even genuinely hilarious at times. I've got to admit that I was a little troubled by the fact that it seemed to reinforce so many negative stereotypes. As d-lewis points out in his review, there's a fine line between spoofing racial stereotypes and feeding into them, especially when you're as white as the filmmakers who manned BDD's Fangoria table.

For some time I had to think about this movie. It certainly isn't a typical 2/10 home made self-deceived fabrication. After numerous people had praised it, I was certainly beginning to doubt my judgement. It is a movie that describes the rather dubious satisfaction of large busted white women by a sexually adept and stereotypical black doll. If this is an acceptable parody of white attitudes to black people then forgive me. But I honestly imagine that were I black I would be offended and very justifiably so. I can appreciate that in certain regards there is some professionalism that has gone into this racist diatribe but nonetheless....get over your fear that the foreigner will steal your women!

Ahh where do I begin? I had been following this movie for probably over a year, and since I first saw the hilarious looking trailer, I had put it at the top of my list with movies to see, along with Bad Biology. And I remember that the DVD was supposed to be released last year, and I was disappointed to find that they delayed the release, but I am happy because I got to experience Black Devil Doll on the big screen, in a theater, the way it should be seen. And it was more than worth the wait. Trust me. This movie is like no other film you have seen in your life, trust me. And you will never see a film like this again. And that is more than a good thing. This film is definitely not for the easily offended, not for the faint of heart, not for those who are easily grossed out, and you get the idea. Full of nudity, violence, gore, and more awesomeness, this must be the most fun I have had in a theater since I saw Poultrygeist. There are scenes that will make you scream OH MY GOD, scenes that will make you laugh your butt off, and scenes that are just plain wrong. It all adds up to one hilarious fun time. I must also add that the score from Giallos Flame is excellent, 70's style music. From the credits, I knew I was in the presence of greatness. The black devil doll is one of the most entertaining characters in film history, and will be sure to make you laugh. Whether you like the movie or not, you will be entertained. Just know what you are in for. It is sick, twisted, funny, gross, and so wrong, but oh, so right. I really wish there were more movies like this. It screams sequel!
