Yash Chopra's films did manage to be sensible once in a while, though impounded by unnecessary songs. This movie is one of those, and fortunately, it skipped on unnecessary bollywood drama. The acting is above average in this one with a rare, excellent performance by SRK. The character sketch here is excellent. He is not an in-your-face hero disguised as villain. He is very real, a manipulative and coward man. That really increased the appeal of the film tremendously for me. His twisted thinking is apparent when Annu Kapoor's death scene is played out. He calls his mother incessantly which made me expect some sympathy provoking melodrama, which fortunately did not occur. So, to summarize, on the upside of the film: -It is quick paced except for the songs -SRK's tactics are smart and believable -SRK's characterization is excellent -There is no unnecessary melodrama -Juhi plays the victim really well -The locales and actors look gorgeousOn the downside: -Anupam Kher's humour is forced and unnecessary -The songs are too many and too long -The ending scene was disgustingA word on the ending scene now, the pathetic joke about a stalker was completely uncalled for. The movie could have really done without it. It was like a mockery of a very real and serious issue. As for the controversial climax, I did not feel any sympathy for SRK in the end. So what if he had KIRAN on his chest? That was expected! Does that make him any good? I think the climax was good, especially when Juhi asks Sunny to kill him. Well- deserved!

Darr is a great movie! Shahrukh plays an obsessed lover who will do almost anything to win over his lady which in this case is Juhi Chawla. Little does Juhi know in the film that Shahrukh has a MAJOR crush on her and is constantly stalking her. I have to admit, some of the things he did in this movie were pretty creepy... like the threatening phone calls. Never in my life will I forget the line, "I love you K..k..k..Kiran!"It's just too bad that Shahrukh and Juhi weren't exactly "together" in the film. But Juhi and Sunny do make a fairly good couple in the movie. Though Shahrukh's role was pretty psychotic, I still think he did a great job of playing it and can't possibly imagine anyone else doing that role. No wonder he got an award for Darr in 94'!Juhi... what can I say??? She looks especially amazing in this film! It's not that she doesn't always look amazing in her other films, but Darr did give the public a wonderful image of her!As for the music... it was excellent! Especially "Jaadu Teri Nazar," one of my all time favorite songs. I also thought "Tu Mere Samne" was quite nice also.A must see for everyone! Overall Darr deserves a 11/10!

This film is worth seeing primarily for its historical significance. Hindi films generally have very limited story lines, so a new addition, that of the obsessive lover, is noteworthy. Currently however, the film is clearly overlong and Sunny Deol is too stiff. Juhi is stunningly beautiful and her effervescence is a joy to watch. Shahrukh's intensity still works although he overacts towards the end in an overblown climax. While some songs should have been cut, the song "Tu mere Saamne" remains a treat. The film is worth a watch at least on television/DVD.Overall 6/10

Darr (1993) was an incredible movie. In my opinion, it is one of Bollywood's finest. The movie itself triggers feelings of sympathy, fear, confusion, happiness, and sadness. Shahrukh's role was unbelievable, in fact he gave obsession a new face. Juhi Chawla's innocent and girlie character contrasted greatly with Shahrukh's fiery and passionate character. Sunny Deol's role made the "good guy" role seem like the "bad guy" one. The fact that Shahrukh, not Sunny, captivated the audience's attention proves that everyone has that helpless inner drive to pursue something that's not really in their hands. Even though the movie is several years old, it surpasses any recent one. The song "Tu Mere Samne" was full of passion and meaning. His personality fit the role perfectly. He should seriously consider re-starring in a similar film.
