It's been a long time since I saw the original "Kreutzer kommt" and I remember being underwhelmed by it, the whole story at a pub or restaurant if I remember correctly and for this "new" film here, the location is a hospital. It came out in 2012, 2 years after the first, so it also has its 5th anniversary this year. Huber returned as director while Jeltsch was again in charge of the script and it is of course another small screen movie that aired on ProSieben here in Germany. Christoph Maria Herbst reprises his role and as I am a huge Stromberg fan I may be a bit biased when I say he is the heart and soul of the film. On a side-note, it was kinda nice to see the actress who plays the Polish lady on Stromberg appear briefly in this film and she is basically the only hospital staff member who is really never a suspect that she may have killed the female doctor, so her screen-time is limited. If you are into German films, you will see many familiar faces like Thomass (was also in the first), the stunning Eisinger, Lau, Yardim, Bukowski, Dietze and maybe others. It's a mostly young and hip cast that you would expect in a ProSieben movie. The story was okay overall, at least in terms of the comedy department as the dialogues were witty, spot-on and entertaining. Kreutzer sure is the epitome of "schlagfertig", an epitome of Sherlock Holmes (not the crappy Cumberbatch version obviously) and Dr. House. The dramatic/crime elements were not always on par. The ending with the young cancer patient sure was a bit over the top and the film does not need rushed-in attempts at great emotion to be a success, especially if they feel so random. Besides it is not too realistic how basically everybody's a suspect and has basically something to hide and is some involved with the case, even if not as the actual one pulling the trigger. Or driving the car. But it is okay as Herbst made up for most of the deficits and Thomas was surprisingly tolerable. Sure the film cannot be taken from a serious crime investigation perspective as Kreutzer could have been sent right away for impersonating a doctor and when the character almost has sex with a hot blonde hospital employee, it is also nothing that really makes sense, but if you see this film as a comedy for what it is, then you may have a fairly decent time watching here. I myself enjoyed the watch and I felt it was definitely superior to the first film. I'd also watch a third if they ever decide to make one. Until then, this one here gets a thumbs-up and I think you should go check it out.
