Yelawolf: A Slumerican Life (2021)

An impromptu airboat ride deep into the New Orleans swamps delivers a chance meeting with a one-of-a-kind character. After some target practice, it’s frog legs and beer for the crew. The next day, Yelawolf and the band meet with a local Voodoo Priest and prepare to perform at a legendary blues club.

After a legendary show at Preservation Hall, it’s a late flight to Atlanta, the city where Yelawolf’s rap roots took hold. Yelawolf and the gang meet with local icons like graffiti artist Dr. Dax, producer WLPWR and rapper Grip Plyaz. It’s an emotional time as Yelawolf reconnects with his past.

Atlanta unearths a dark period in Yelawolf’s life, when he struggled with drug use. Nobody understands this period better than the one guy who became the closest thing to a real father for Yelawolf. But is Yelawolf's love and appreciation for the man enough for him to jump out of a plane?

Yelawolf and hit-maker Jim Jonsin hit the studio to explore Nashville's broad creativity. For the first time ever, Yelawolf allows cameras to capture all the passion he puts into making a record. After the studio session, Yelawolf and friends celebrate the 4th of July in a uniquely Slumerican way.

We arrive in Gadsden, Alabama, the town that made Yelawolf. After getting tattoos at Yelawolf’s sister’s shop, the crew heads to Momma Wolf’s for a family lunch and to prepare for that night's show on the Coosa River. But what kind of reception will Yelawolf receive in his own hometown?

Still in Gadsden, Yelawolf shares a slice of his childhood. Later, the crew joins up for a tour through the Alabama marshes. Feeling good about his trip home, Wolf heads to New York City for new adventures.

Exploring the line between entrepreneur and artist, Yelawolf visits an old friend, a skateboarder-turned-jeweler. Inspired by his story, Yelawolf launches an impromptu “low” fashion show. Next, the crew heads to LA to meet with fashion designer Mitchell Binder and legendary photog Estevan Oriol.

We learn why Los Angeles holds a special place in Yelawolf's heart. Linking up with Three 6 Mafia alum, DJ Paul, Yelawolf convinces him to join them for a journey out to Joshua Tree. A party filled with experimental drug use has Wolf remembering when he hit rock bottom on tour in 2016.

Danny Way takes the gang out for some fresh local food and to see his mega ramp. From Kauai, the band head to Albuquerque, where they meet with longtime Slumerican and Native American quilt maker, Ben Leedom.

Yelawolf takes advantage of his time in Albuquerque to hit up local hot spots and party in the desert. Next, Yelawolf and crew travel to South Dakota, where Yelawolf is slated to headline a show, but not before meeting up with a motorcycle stunt team and fellow Slumerican rapper, Struggle Jennings.
