I kinda expected this movie to suck considering it was made by a guy who's so arrogant to call himself "Director X". The plot was thin the acting was bad. I do have to say one positive thing though, the idea of the film was a good one just poorly executed. 1/10 Thanks for reading my opinion on this flick. My review is too short apparently so let me see what else I can think of here... I did like the actor who played the lead, can't remember his name but I liked his style.
Youngblood Priest (Trevor Jackson) is a cocaine kingpin in Atlanta. He has done well because he is smart and lays low. He wants that one more big score, one that will expand his business and take risks of being exposed. And that causes all kind of problems. In the film Priest is described as "Morris Day" looking, and responds "Who is Morris Day?" with an expletive. In comparison to the original this one is more vulgar and the music wasn't that great, except when they managed to play some of the original sound track. Perhaps an unintentional statement on society. Without a character named "Snow" it is not a realistic Atlanta drug film. If you are looking for another bad guy protagonist, this is it. Killing, drug use, and strippers. Guide: F-word, sex, and nudity.
This is decent-reboot, Trevor Jackson gives a solid performance as "Priest" trying to get out the drug game but wanting to do one more big job before....retiring. The film looks good, it is very polished/glitzy with a hip-hop soundtrack ,it moves at a decent pace, violence/action, a little comedy, just like he original, I wish the writing was better, i believe this movie was intended for the new generation of moviegoers unfortunately, they were not born when the original film was released and the movie trailer left much to be desired/understood. In overall, a solid film- Superfly will most likely fare better on cable, digital release and movie streaming outlets.
In my mho, this movie is soooo bad! It reminded me of a bad SNL skit. I laughed the entire time! Trevor Jackson cannot act! He is a terrible actor! This fact becomes blatantly apparent in the scene with Jason Mitchell at the "furniture store". It is painful to watch! Jason's acting looks real, convincing and natural. While, Trevor looks like he's struggling to remember his lines, and talking in a dull, monotone voice. My boyfriend loved the movie. He said, "It was action-packed!" I guess it's a guy flick?
