It's an amazing movie at some points it might be unrealistic bit just the imagination that 100% brain capacity might be possible is a wonderful thought, and yea just a great movie!

"Lucy" is more wish fulfillment fantasy than anything else. Wouldn't be great if we all had God-like powers locked away in our brains just waiting to be released (kind of a metaphysical version of a letter from Hogworts). Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) experiences this cognitive renaissance when she is forced to mule an experimental drug hidden in her abdomen by a vicious Taiwanese drug-lord. The drug, a synthetic prenatal hormone, allows her to vault past human (and physical) limitations and archive 'The Highest Possible Level of Development'. She eventually meets up with Professor Norman (Morgan Freeman) a pseudo-scientist and expert on the quiescent 90% of our brain while an army of the nattily dressed gangsters search for her. A massive gunfight (borrowing heavily from The Matrix) accompanies a trippy extra-corporal experience (borrowing heavily from the 2001: A Space Odyssey). Energetic and entertaining, "Lucy" is best enjoyed using only the right-side 5% of your mental capacity, but if you have read some of the many fawning reviews on IMDB and expect to achieve enlightenment, I suspect that you will be disappointed.

I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for this movie's core conceit about how a drug pregnant women produce has more power than an atom bomb and how taking this drug unlocks the full potential of your brain but only for this one girl and not anyone else. Yeah, the concept is hokey and stupid, but I can get passed that for the sake of the movie, especially if it's a good movie. But Lucy is not a good movie. This film is eager to beat you over the head with 'the point'. From explaining all nuance behind the main character's name in the first five minutes just so everyone gets it, to using incredibly blunt stock footage metaphors as a substitute for good directing. Whether or not this is a deal breaker for you personally will basically come down to how much you can tolerate. But what no one should tolerate is how they handle the lead character. After Lucy gets her powers, effectively all of her personality is gone. She becomes a robot, not emoting and speaking in monotone. After the phone call with her parents, she doesn't even hint at any emotional drive behind her actions. At least, not any that feel genuine. It makes it really hard to connect with her at all, especially considering we got so little of a look into her life before she gets her powers that she might as well have been robotic the whole movie.I can't even say the action was a saving grace for this film. Sure, the shots can be occasionally cool looking, but that's not enough to save the fights themselves when they're so devoid of tension. From the second Lucy's powers are active, she's perfect at fighting. She doesn't struggle, she's unfazed by the skill or numbers of her opponents, and she doesn't even look like she's trying. And this only gets worse the more powerful she gets. By the end of the movie, there's an invasion of the building she's currently hiding out in. Throughout the whole climatic battle that ensues, I can't bring myself to care. Lucy could kill all of them with a single thought. She could've killed all of them with a single thought before they even learned her location. There was no reason for this fight to take place other than trying to milk some tension out of the last few moments of the film, but the film failed to recognize that it can't have tension in it's action scenes anymore. Without action to be invested in, the movie shows itself to be even more hollow. It can't explore the science behind what it's talking about because it knows that it's just pseudo-science at best. It can't be an interesting character study because it sapped it's leading lady of any character whatsoever. It can show some crazy visuals, but thanks to the beginning I can't rightly know if the trippy montage near the end was stuff the filmmakers actually created or stock footage that they found and decided to use.Lucy isn't fun or engaging on any level for me, and I would not recommend this film to anyone. Maybe diehard Scarjo or Luc Besson fans will be able to get more out of this movie than I did, but both of them have done better work that would be more worth your time to check out instead.

I had no expectations before watching this. Okay, I saw Johansson and Freeman played in it, so I thought it had to be decent. Suspicions started to boil during the sluggish first dialogue and the following crude montage of nature clips. From then on I knew this was popcorn. Despite it's ridiculous premise and pretentiousness i was still entertained somewhat. The movie quickly goes so overboard that you can't but laugh at all the fast-paced madness that unfolds. If it hadn't taken itself so serious it might have worked. Now it's just a failed attempt at making a good philosophical sci-fi action flick. It was so bad that me and my girflriend repeatedly asked each other what the hell this movie was trying to be. Laughable and forgettable.
