Evangelion 1.0 shows some of the best animated sequences I've ever seen, and delivers some incredible action. Too bad the main character, Shinji, NEVER stops whining about this and that, and just overall is strangely indifferent to all the crazy sh*t that happening. Hey Shinji! I know we just met but you're mankind's only hope! - Oh, okay.. - Don't you at least wanna know what's going on, Shinji??? - Nah, I don't know... Jesus. Without the insanely action scenes and the great animation, I would probably have a hard time recommending this.5/10

Back around 2005, Hideki anno came up with an idea for an amine that not only will astound but also question the fundamentals of religion as well as the psychosis of human nature at its best and worst. I must say around that time the idea of, "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and it's trailer was a push back in my thoughts but after seeing the very first episode of the series i was instantly hooked right up to its questionable ending. A year (and a couple of threats later) Anno, tied up all lose ends and even help answer some questions for the newbies in "Death and rebirth" and "End of Evangelion" which i say gone down as one of the best end all anime's so far but also the most mind screw ones cause you have to be either high or drinking to understand some of the plot points in the movie (which isn't a bad thing!...LOL).Now in 2007, Hideki Anno does it again but only this time he's doing it a bit bigger and in fact better for those that are new and those that are already fans (such as myself) in Evangelion 1.0: You are (Not) alone. Now don't be mistaken for a all new Evangelion event cause this is NOT this is in fact a remake of a series (which is taking place in four parts covering the whole series in a 1 hour and 38 min movie) which i felt when i look at it now was missing a lot from it as far as emotional and deep rooted connections now this time all of that is placed back in with a all new backdrop, a deeper understanding for the hero of the story, and a much more updated action scenes which are indeed a bit longer. The story covers the tale of Shinji Ikari a 14-year old boy who is going thru one big emotional downpour after another, sometimes you feel bad for him and then the next you want to shake this kid to death cause he's so self doubtful but either case this remake offers a much more inner focus into his mind and his trails as he becomes on his way to becoming a hero or anti-hero depending on your outtake. What caught my attention was not just the added story depth, but now the update in music which i must say its the music that moved me; and also added new feature, "CGI" for most of the anime which is great considering that some of the angels in the story I felt that they weren't getting their stronger appeal and i felt needed a lot more feel (specifically for Ramiel near the end which was the BEST). The connection between Shinji and Rei is also added more strongly giving Shinji a bit of hope where he felt hopeless each character has more facial strengths, more adamant emotions, and also more roots into their background which gives a better understanding but that's not all to this story and by the end of watching this i was already hoping to see 2.0 i'm 28 and i'm jumping like a kid at Christmas seeing how so much as been put now into this remake let's hope the next three will be just as grand.10/10 Story 10: For those that already know the story you will be treated to the same story but with a all new deeper plot and understanding; for those that are new to the story will be treated to not just the the best looking art direction and CGI add-ins, but with a greater knowledge of the characters even if the movie is 1 hour.Development 9/10: The development in this story is still strong if not better than the original series; The characters seem to know their place and then some. The connections are so strong that you start to sometimes relate to most of them and it makes the story just as grand but also it takes out some of the crap that was in the original making each person in this movie more human in their directions.Music 10/10: I loved the soundtrack to this movie. It gets to you in ways that a present gets to a kid. especially when Shinji first enters the Eva i loved that part of the movie the music was gripping and updated so well that I was impressed.General 10/10: You might can call this the Perfect version of Evangelion but everyone has a different taste to what they like; But this version is re-drawn, revised, and added in some new elements that most fans wanted to see in the original but never got to see; and for newcomers more stronger knowledge for Evangelion even the controversial ones. This is the first movie covering 1-6 of the original series in its entirety filling in all gaps and adding in some new elements to make a person want more...this is the definitive series and i'm very pleased by it.

I was a large fan of both the original series, the half-release 'Death and Rebirth' and the replacement ending 'The End of Evangelion', so I'm not giving this praise as some guy who's just walked in on this.I am extremely pleased with this new iteration of Evangelion. I don't even know where to begin ... Gainax threw out everything they had, completely redrawing all the animation and backgrounds in painstakingly high detail. It is the most apparent revision to the series at first glance ... all the visuals are top-notch, even the computer-generated graphics which I would typically find unforgivable in a film - but everything is drawn and animated so smooth, and the rare use of CG is so well-integrated into the film that it feels like you haven't been taken out of the organic animation at all.The storyline is quite similar to the original, though first on the side I want to say they've taken much thought deciding how to develop the characters better; and the result is that the cast is much more believable and their chemistry is quite fantastic. The characters just feel deeper, their emotions are more genuine; it's hard to describe in a review but if you're a fan of the original series you'll find their personalities and interactions much more developed and satisfying. The plot, as I've said; has not changed too much at this point.. there are exceptions here and there, with the introductions of pivotal locations and characters earlier on; no doubt to lay down continuity for the later installments. (The original Evangelion had a slight problem with eclectic character and plot point introductions.) They have taken care to set the stage more carefully for the first scene this time around; and as shown with the early introduction of an important character Gainax intends to make full use of some fantastic characters that didn't get enough time in the spotlight to really add anything especially deep.I recommend this film to anybody who is a fan of serious animation; and I would say that it's an absolute must-see for fans of the original series. It's comforting to know that in a world of poor remakes and extensions of popular titles, that Gainax has their wits about them and shows true dedication in their efforts to make Evangelion into everything that it could possibly be.

I saw this movie only yesterday and have been a huge Evangelion fan for over 8 years and were not at all disappointed, quite the contrary. I remember seeing an episode when I was only 8 years old (yes I'm 16) and found the story fascinating, the animation slick, and the plot deeper than any public-fiction piece in modern times. Evangelion Rebuilt 1.0 You are (not) alone delivers everything its massively-popular and much loved ancestor established in 1991, doubles the coolness and really makes good on the IP. Now to the story itself and all the technical stuff; the movie only covers up until the end of the fight of Ramiel the 6th Angel (yes you heard right, 6th). The story maintains its consistency with the original plot for the most part with a few small changes relating to what was said and done, when. At the end of the movie I left feeling as if the novelty of Evangelion had just come charging back like a stampeded of steroid-juiced T-Rex's. I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoyed it, especially the final fight - watch and awe. Animation is brilliant, plot is just as good as it was 17 years ago, and the action scenes are blistering - very much improved. Some would ask, "if you're an Envangelion fan and loved it why only 9/10". The answer is that the movie was truly great but I reserve the 10s for the really 'perfect' movies. I would give it 9.5 stars if it was possible. In summary Eva 1.0 is a great movie for fans and even newbies. If the the next movies are any better than 1.0 i'll be giving out some 10s for sure. Judging by the preview of 2.0 at the end I'm sure the Eva movie quartet will only improve from here on in. At the end of the day it is up to you to make your own decision on it, but if you're reading this I'm gathering that you are a NGE fan so am sure to enjoy this movie. Surely the only bad thing about this movie is the wait until 2.0Score 9.5/10
