Immortals (2011)

Loved the acting in this movie. If you do not try to make it fit into actual myths and history, you will save yourself a lot of grief.

"Immortals" is an action fantasy movie in which we watch a young man who is the leader of an army and fights a ruthless King. His main goal is to find the ultimate weapon and eliminate humanity. Zeus chose this mortal young man to lead this army because he saw at him many things including honor, strength and he thought that this person can be the savior of the people.I have to admit that I expected more from this movie. I thought that it would be an amazing movie with an interesting plot and many twists and unfortunately, it was not. Despite that, I have to say that I liked very much the scene where the priestesses were speaking ancient Greek, the interpretations of Henry Cavill who played as Theseus and Mickey Rourke who played King Hyperion, and the visual effects of it but these were not enough. The direction which was made by Tarsem Singh was average and I believe he did not even reach his true potential. To sum up I believe that "Immortals" is an average movie with no many surprises and also a medium plot. It's not something extraordinary, it has a simple plot with some good interpretations which were made by its cast and an average written script. If you want to watch this movie just don't expect much from it and don't have high expectations or hopes.

I did love the movie 300 when it came out and I will probably still love it now. There you had epic battles and very nice filming. So when Immortals came out I was thrilled. I thought it would be at the same level as 300 but instead it's a complete failure. No epic battles except a little one here and there but never with the same power as in 300. But that aside it's just the story that isn't good. If you we're looking for a good movie about Greek mythology then this isn't the one. The story is very slow and uninteresting. Several times I found myself checking out how long I had to endure more of this movie. That's not a good sign. The end couldn't come early enough for me. So besides an okay filming the rest isn't just worth watching.

The very first minutes are interesting, but soon the movie shows that it will be a waste of time and money. Why the scenario looks like a theatre stage? Why does Theseus fight like martial artists or Jedi knights? What the hell are those gods' bizarre golden helmets? Why it is so hard for Hollywood making films about Greek Mythology, which is much more interesting than their average action movie crap screenplays (a serious epic about Titanomachy could be awesome!)? Indeed, the film is entirely based in assumptions contrary to basic Greek mythology traits, such as the idea that the god may not interfere in human lives. As a matter of fact, there are obvious Christian or modern Western values mobilizing characters instead of ancient Greek ones. The films has many serious mistakes and just copy what all the other empty blockbusters do: excessive slow motions, generic motivation speeches, video game ultra- violence.
