This is one of the better movies that Cage has been in in recent memory but that's not exactly saying too much if we're looking at his track record. Still, it's an enjoyable thriller full of your standard twists and turns that we are accustomed to seeing from this genre. There's a few other "big" names in this in Pearce & Jones which is nice. Script is okay, directing is okay. This is the type of movie you'd probably flip on halfway through on USA on a lazy Sunday afternoon and watch the last 45 minutes. Nothing special but could be worse.

Normally, I am not overly keen on Nicolas Cage movies, especially since they tend to be a dime a dozen, as he spews them out by the minute. But still, I do sit down to watch his movies, as my wife happens to be a fan of him.And with no expectation to "Seeking Justice", I could be nothing but positively surprised. And that was the case, because this movie actually turned out to be good and rather interesting, especially as far as your average mass-produced Nicolas Cage movies go.The story presented in "Seeking Justice" turned out to be interesting, albeit somewhat on the edge of being just a tad too far fetched. But director Roger Donaldson managed to keep the movie fast paced enough to maintain its level of interest, and he also managed to keep the audience somewhat in the dark as to what would happen next. So the movie didn't suffer from being generic and predictable as many of Nicolas Cage movies have a tendency of doing.Nicolas Cage actually put on one of the better performances in his career here, and he proves that he still is able to muster together a performance that stands out from his usual generic stuff.Guy Pearce also did a great job in the role, although his role was too small and his talent wasn't fully utilized in my opinion. And it was a sheer joy to have Xander Berkeley, but again, too small a role and not enough screen time.It is the fast pace of the movie and the storyline that keeps the movie constantly interesting, and there wasn't really any dull moments throughout the course of the movie. So it was a constantly fast paced ride.I can highly recommend "Seeking Justice" as a watchable movie, even if you are not a fan of Nicolas Cage.

Will Gerard (Nicolas Cage) is an unassuming high school teacher in New Orleans. One night, his wife Laura (January Jones) is brutally raped. At the hospital, Simon (Guy Pearce) claims to represent a few citizen seeking justice. He's willing to seek justice for Will in exchange for some favors. The cryptic favors get serious when Simon asks Will to kill a pedophile. Will tries to talk to the man but he struggles and accidentally kills himself. The man turns out to be respected investigative journalist Alan Marsh and the police are zeroing in on Will.It tries to be stylized thriller. The basic concept is fine but nothing special. The first problem comes with the candy bar. It's a stupid manufactured story device. It's of no use and only shine a light on how overly written this story is. A simple YES could have been so much more powerful. Instead the audience is forced to wait for the scene to finish. Time and time again, the movie tries too hard. I am glad that Will finally asked for a lawyer at the police station. The writing could have been worst but it's not good. Nick Cage needs to get work with better directors and stop taking these second rate offerings.

(34%) A very by the numbers, far from great, and rather quite silly offering featuring poor old Nic Cage paying off his tax bill, that really does beg the question: just how crippling was it in the first place? This though is just about entertaining enough for a simple, late-night watch; but there just isn't anything up this movie's sleeve to make it a memorable or worthy a repeat watch. With its very B-movieish plot that really lacks both spark and any sort of intelligence, along with a real lack of tension or any trace of believability. This is a better watch than 2011's terrible Trespass, but Nic still deserves better than this.
