An insipid, uninspired retread of the 1960 original. This film is typical of what happens when America churns out yet another remake of a classic film. The result is shallow, glossy, and totally dull. John Carpenter, who has made such brilliant films as HALLOWEEN and THE THING, obviously took the money and ran in this case, as the film contains none of his typical atmosphere or style. Instead it has a bland, TV movie like atmosphere. The chills in the first film from the spooky children are replaced instead by clumsy over-emphasis. Gone are the sinister kids, instead we have aliens (what else? Post X-FILES, no film can be complete without an alien in a jar) with glowing multicoloured eyes. Unfortunately, the special effects are rubbish, and look far too computer generated to be anything but realistic. The 'horror' in the film comes from the series of murders that the children commit. In 1960, VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED achieved fame from a chilling atmosphere of the unknown. In 1995, VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED achieves nothing with a handful of boring murders, which aren't even particularly gory. The most gruesome demise is that of Kirstie Alley, but it has to be said that we were pretty thankful it took place; Alley sleepwalks through her role here and comes off as totally unlikeable. The same can be said of Christopher Reeve, who gives such a bland, expressionless performance that you can't help but smile at the end. His riding accident which left him crippled took place right after the completion of this film; it's disappointing that he had the misfortune to end his able-bodied career on this note. The only actor of interest in the film is Mark Hamill as a shotgun wielding vicar who gives an over the top performance bordering on psychotic. He's fun.The children are annoying bad/cute child actors and actresses, who try very hard to look sinister but fail miserably. The only moments worth watching in this film are the comic scene where a man is burnt on a barbecue, or the ending where policemen and soldiers all suddenly start shooting each other for no reason. There is also some tension in the explosive finale, but it comes far too late to lift this film from being anything other than a middling, stupid affair.

A small town's women give birth to unfriendly alien children posing as humans. Village of the Damned although it's a remake of a 1960 film it succeeds thanks to John Carpenter's usual creepy vibe but also great performances by Christopher Reeve, Linda Kozlowski and a young Thomas Dekker who is mostly known from his role as John Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Although there are some things that i thought that they were weird cause you could easily spot the children from that their hair for example are white and you can easily see that there is something wrong in here by just the hair alone also if you except Mark Hamill have a big role you might get disappointed and as for Kirstie Alley she was alright but the stand out performances are easily David (Dekker), Reeve (Chaffee) and Kozlowski as McGowan also the children were creepy as hell although i should have seen that ending coming sooner or later it did kinda bother me but honestly it was a pretty good movie if you have never seen it or heard of it check it out it's not as violent as other Carpenter movies but it's not a bad one either i give Village of the Damned a 10 out of 10.

Village of the Damned was made well into the I'm-tired-and-I-just- don't-give-a-damn-anymore stage of Carpenter's career. Like The Ward 15 years later, it feels so bland and pointless. What is there to gain from watching this film? It's not scary. It's not funny. And it certainly doesn't make use of a cast that includes Christopher Reeve (in his last role before he was paralyzed by falling off his horse), Kirstie Alley, and Mark Hamill. The direction is lazy, the execution clumsy. The end could leave you pondering on the fate of two of the main characters (one of whom happens to be an inhumane psychic monster- child alien – but don't worry, he's probably a goody now that he lost his sexual partner who became a test tube blob because she was stolen at childbirth by the government after her mother was impregnated by an alien space ghost…wait, what?) but by then you'll have dozed off. Flat and tedious, Village of the Damned is a tired product from a fatigued director.Best Scene: The part where everyone in the town faints as a result of the alien-ghost thingies (where they every explained?) is the only good scene in the movie. It also provides a chilling death-by- barbecue.

Village of the Damned (1995) Frist of all, I don't the original was even that good but at least kept in and moved forward and at more creepy feel to the movie. I did think movie would be better as John Carpenter did this remake, So I looking forward to it but soon as the movie started I knew this movie not going to be good. I didn't really like how they kinda change the story , gave really lame back story to kids being borned , there not one moment did have this kids creepy or scary at all.It was tame from start to end and neverfeel moved forward as the movie was such their.I thought this was going to be a lot more better, so how they about to die, we actually see the death scenes in this movie, seen before and the aftermath but not when happens, it cuts way to the kids was lights in there eyes. The acting was really wooden by some of the main cast, I don't maybe they took make this more main stream movie.I think must be worst John carpenter movie but a least movie wasn't boring, it maybe a little intruded how the movie going pan out, even that ending was a load of rubbish.2 out of 10
