Letters to Juliet (2010): Dir: Gary Winick / Cast: Amanda Seyfried, Christopher Egan, Vanessa Redgrave, Gael Garcia Bernal, Franco Nero: Shakespeare has always been the figure for love and tragedy. Here we have a romance addressing the heroine who has seen it all. Amanda Seyfried is in Italy with her fiancé and becomes intrigued with a group a ladies who answer letters addressed to Juliet with regards to love and relationships. Seyfried contacts an elderly woman whose letter dates back to 1957. With reluctance of her grandson they begin an odyssey to find the male whom she nearly married. Director Gary Winick has fun with the Shakespeare theme although the screenplay is pretty thin. Winick previously directed the romantic themed 13 Going On 30 as well as the non romantic Charlotte's Web. Seyfriend holds her own as this curious young woman fascinated with love that has aged by decades. Christopher Egan as the grandson basically gets reduced to a back and forth spat with Seyfried until he arrives where viewers all know is obvious. Vanessa Redgrave as the grandmother in search of her past Romeo is very good as she accepts Seyfried as a friend and encounters one false Romeo after another since several bear the same name. Will she meet the real one? Is the sky blue? Gael Garcia Bernal as Seyfried's Italian cook fiancé is written out conveniently and never played as anything but a lousy plot prop. This might make for a decent date film although males may prefer something more upbeat and less sappy. The Shakespeare theme will make the letter worth opening only for chick flick fans. Score: 6 / 10

This was a really good story, with the added attraction of Vanessa Redgrave and her now-after-a-long-wait husband Franco Nero (Okay, I cheated, Wikipedia), but all the others are so drippy. It could have been a whole lot funnier and snappier. The book was written in 2006, and the movie came out in 2010. Don't these people use the internet?! I'm assuming that is how they found all those Lorenzos, but Sophie only had her laptop open once. Besides the awkward technical details, there is little chemistry between Sophie and Charlie, although we know from the beginning that they will get together. One hates to blame the director, as he died not long afterwards at the tragically young age of 49, but it just doesn't hang together as well as it could have. Makes me want to read the non-fiction book. And watch Redgrave and Nero in Camelot again...

The screen is constantly filtered yellow, the main character seemingly teleports from place to placeand the music drowns out any attempt at half decent dialogue. Amanda Seyfried possesses only the two abilities of staring at her feet and constantly looking like she's shat herself. The plot it rushed, incredibly unrealistic and the love interest's when together are reminiscent of couple's whose lives revolve around their babies farts and if it will rain whilst they eat scones on the porch. After losing the will to live watching Letters to Insulting Shakespeare pun, I can however in the spirit of the films arty-farty nonsense, be thankful I still have my health... just.

Never ever I have felt that any love story is able to be filmed or dramatized in movies properly, leave perfectly. But letters to Juliet is one movie that still not perfect nor even proper but did turned out to be allowing me to enjoy thoroughly.Simplicity, beauty, small points consideration...pick points are most important characteristics that made it an amazing movie. caution.....it seems that surly Hollywood-ised folks ain't gonna much enjoy it and hence a lower rating is expected but may be Bollywood lovers or Bollywood customers will enjoy it. Nothing special in this movie except simple new story and beautifully filmed. So I would recommend this movie to be tried and I am sure one will enjoy it and at least feel entertained. although 8/10 is much higher rating but still its fair as far as love stories or romantic dramas are considered.
