Going the Distance is a reasonable to good romantic comedy, albeit many flaws. Not a clean film in terms of appropriate content and not my kind of film, but I found enough of it funny and endearing. There was certainly a lot more good than bad and the cast is likable. If you like this film as I did, I'd recommend Like Crazy (2011), which is basically a better version of this film without the comedy.

Damn this movie made me laugh. I'm not generally one for the romantic comedies but this was very good. Original story, a whose-who list of fantastic secondary characters and genuine chemistry from two very likable leads in Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. I loved the sarcasm between them in their dialogue. The story here is about a guy and a girl who try to keep their love alive as they shuttle back and forth between New York and San Francisco to see one another. They know the odds aren't in their favour but they're going to try and make this work. There are many laugh-out-loud moments here but that sex scene on the dining room table with the husband right there, sitting in the dark, eating a sandwich and then the sister (Christina Applegate) later cleaning and tossing food that falls on the table just killed me. I will watch this one again one day 03.13

Just to be clear, I am a fan of romantic comedies and teen movies. I have no problem with clichés or predictable/expected endings. Actually I prefer these movies because they're predictable, and it makes me happy. However, I really do not like Going the Distance. I just look for comedy and romance in a romantic comedy, naturally. But I couldn't find them in this movie. Firstly, I have to confess that I definitely dislike Justin Long. Of course it is not the reason why I'm not into Going the Distance. It is not even romantic. To kiss each other on the mouth during all movie etc. is not romance. Where are the strong/effective lines and scenes that show the great love? Trust me, if people want to see a soft porn, they do not prefer a Hollywood movie so stop it. Also it is not fun enough. No doubt, this movie is worse than I expected.

I really liked this movie, maybe because I've been in a long distance relationship and one that worked out in the end but I was nodding at all of the frustrations and foibles they were having not seeing each other. But this was a comedy not a drama and there was great chemistry between all the characters, especially garret's two roommates, Jim gaffigan was a bit underused but the eating at the dinner table scene when erin and garret has to consummate was truly laugh out loud stuff.Drew barrymore did look a little old for this role and I don't know how realistic it is to be an intern at 31 but overall, this qualifies as good date material stuff
