Lie with Me (2006)

Nymphomaniac Leila (Lauren Lee Smith) goes to a party. She catches the attention of David (Eric Balfour) and Victoria (Polly Shannon). They watch her having sex with a stranger in the alley and start having sex themselves. Leila's mother leaves her father. Her friend Rachel (Kristin Lehman) is giving up great sex to marry someone she loves. David starts stalking her and their perverse sexual affair grows. David is taking care of his father and Victoria is jealous.Firstly, this is not a late-night erotic B-movie. It's trying to be an artistic erotica with varying success. It has a hazy dreamy feel with soft colors and persistent narration from Leila. Leila is a compelling character for about 30 minutes before it grows tired. It becomes nothing more than two hot people having sex a lot. It's a lot of explicit nudity but the story moves way too slowly. Leila's deterioration could be much darker as well as the movie. This needs to be more than hot sex.

I only watched this movie because I'm a fan of Polly Shannon ever since I saw her in Tom Selleck's Jesse Stone TV movies. Unfortunately, she was barely in it. The movie is about an over-sexed girl who can't seem to get enough of it. She seems to go from one guy to the next. She seems to fall in love with Eric Balfour's character, or at least the sex; I'm not really sure which.Basically, if you took out the sex and nudity, there wouldn't be much - if any - story left. The girl was attractive, but the movie was a soft-core porn film. Since the director seemed to hint that sex might actually have happened during the filming, it might be more of the hard-core variety. I know some say the movie was art. I thought it was lousy. This movie made Showgirls seem like Academy Award material. At least there was more story in Showgirls, and yes, I know that sounds impossible to believe.I gave this movie a 1-star rating because...well, it was awful. There was nothing worthwhile about it. If you want to watch a sex film, download a porn film that's proud of what it is. Don't watch a hard-core porn movie that's afraid to say that that's what it is. If they were really having sex, even though penetration wasn't actually shown, then it's a porn flick. Awful movie, awful editing, awful story.

Whilst I understand the thrill this film may have on some people, Its really an observational & revealing documentary. Western ideals have been laid bear without compunction. It shows how self gratification not only harms individuals but harms society in an aggressive manner. It all ties in with narrow minded consumerism consuming people, that's fine if it was not for the fact about how much damage is done to fundamental reality. Crime, family break ups. relationships floundering within a short frame,values are weakened to the point of a complete breakdown of morals. You may ask why do we need morals? Its more fun to do as we please. Take a look around you, see the world in America. Europe, Fragmentation stares us all in the face & we feel helpless to stem the tide of discontent.Some quarters of the world see this moral downfall & want to stop it or protect their families,even countries see it as a decadent wasteland.

This is an amazingly fresh and original movie. Those looking for sex scenes will find them in abundance, but those who only look for that will miss the real power and artistry of the film.This film is as real a picture of life as I have seen. It doesn't shy away from portraying sexual intimacy much as it occurs, but it also captures the caring of a son for his ailing father in equally explicit detail -- showing him cleaning his father after the father is in incontinent in his wheel chair. The tenderness and loving the son shows his dad are unmatched in any movie I've seen.The story itself captures the difficulty of finding meaningful relation in a world filled with trials at home and open sexuality in the clubs and bars. Based on my limited experience with my daughter growing up, it feels like it captures the pain and the pleasure exquisitely.Those looking for fresh cinema and who aren't turned off by lots of sex scenes can't do better than this movie.
