Wilson (2017)

That about covers it. Except for boring and stupid. Another cheap shot at white middle America. Are we getting sick of movie after movie written by dumbass Hollywood writers that seem to think that white middle Americans are the cause of all the problems of society. Here's a clue, guys. There may be a few families like the cliches here, but there are millions of well-adjusted happy normal families living in suburbs everywhere. The notion that you have to be a foul mouth tattood outcast of society to be a real person is really getting old. Besides the fact that it's complete b*******.

Woody Harrelson gives a compelling performance in this year's film but the picture is spoiled a lot by the constant profanity by him and Diane Ladd, portraying his former wife.Harrelson is just perfect as an odd-ball character seeking the meaning of life while desperately trying to form relationships with new friends as well as female companionship.He meets up with his ex-wife who informs him that she didn't have an abortion years before but rather gave up the child for adoption. The two go to see the girl and find an obese, unhappy high school girl taunted by classmates.They try to form a relationship with her and take her to Lane's sister. There, Lane's snooty sister discovers that the girl is telling everyone by phone that she is at a friend's house and calls police. Harrelson is locked up for 3 years and the daughter testifies against him with the kidnapping charge, egged on by her irate adopted parents.Harrelson is released after doing his time and Lane informs him that she is moving to Australia with her sponsor. His beloved dog has died and he takes up with the girl who was watching the dog during his absence.There is a very satisfying end to this film dealing with human relationships, rejection, the need to be wanted and ultimate triumph.

Ghost World the movie and graphic novel seemed to work for the most part, but after some years I always come to the graphic novel because that is what Clowes is good at. I think even if you write the screenplay you are not in charge of your work after that. You have to deal with all the other parts. The main part being the stars performance and the director's choices. I think it worked for Ghost World, but it didn't work here for Wilson. I loved the Graphic Novel, but the movie was something else. Perhaps it should have be so. Something completely different. Harrelson was good and so was Dern, but it all didn't seem to work right. I think we didn't understand why Wilson was this way and Harrelson felt like he was stuck in the middle of this world, too. It just didn't work. I think though if this movie was done in the 80's or 90's it may have felt more fresh. Something about the jokes and the things Wilson did just didn't feel right in his time period. The scene in the bathroom with the other man just didn't make sense to me. It's something Jim Carrey would do, but not Wilson. I thought he was more sophisticated and funny and awful in this other way. I think that moment sealed the deal for me and when certain parts of the movie was directly coming from the graphic novel it just felt forced. The train scene with the sleeping guy comes to mind. Oh well. I wanted to love this.

"Wilson" is one of those movies as you watch you feel entertained as it's blended with drama and comedy and it's a tale of an underdog guy with a good heart who's just trying to fit into today's world. Woody Harrelson stars as Wilson an old fashioned lonely set in his ways kind of guy who would like to talk instead of sending an email. And of late Wilson's life is in the toilet as his father has just past away. So finally for some connection Wilson relocates his ex wife(Laura Dern)who's middle aged yet still sexy and full of life, and some one night stands begin between the two! To top it off with the frosting on the cake Wilson learns of a teenage daughter(Isabella Amara) that he never meet. In Wilson's brash and blunt crazy ways he makes a reconnect only to have it spin a little bit out of control and change his life. Overall this little comedy drama looks at life, love, and reconnecting with family while in the end it shows it can bring happiness.
